Flowrider Fun !!

In between wrestling tournaments we planned a fun family day in Ogden at Flowrider.  We all had a great time, either watching the "surfers" or actually "surfing".
This kid !!!
Bexlee LOVED our "lifeguard/instructor", who sat with her and surfed up over the top.  Bexlee tried it once with her dad, and he about drowned her, so she stuck with Emma after that.
We rented 1/2 of the wave, and took turns surfing, and crashing, and laughing.

I took some still shots, and TONS of video, which I haven't gotten put together yet.
Bright did really well, but then decided she had enough, and took a bunch of pics and videos for me.
Even Zac and Landon got in on the action.  I think they HURT more the next day than the kids did.
These two MAMAS wanted nothing of the water, and were content to hold baby Bentley, and watch and laugh at the surfers antics.
After awhile, everyone started getting BRAVE, and stood up to try their skills.

Daddy and Bright :)
Pretty good at 40 !!  Go Zac !!
I'll get some video up soon, it was so much fun :)

Wrestles are over - a recap of the Divisionals, and State Tournament

Treyson finished up his Sophomore Wrestling season, and it was a doozy !
He placed 7th in the Divisionals (1/2 of the 3A teams in the state).
Treyson wrestles at 190 pounds.  He had previously beat the kids that took 5th, 6th and 8th place.

Here are the details of the Divisional Tournament - held in the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield, Utah, February 4th and 5th.

Treyson was up first against Dallin Sweat, a sophomore from Manti.  This kid was pretty tough, and pinned Treyson in the 1st round.  The Sweat kid ended up taking 3rd in Divisionals.

Second match (now in the consolation bracket) was against Khai Matagi, another sophomore from Summit Academy.  Treyson won by pin in the 3rd round.

Third match (consolation bracket) was against another sophomore, Jonathan Jewkes (Carbon).  Treyson wrestled smart and tough, and won by decision 9-3.

At this point, the first day was over, and we knew that he had qualified for the State Tournament, because depending on how he wrestled the next day, he could either take 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th.

Second day - first match was against Hagan Walker, a senior from Summit Academy, who Treyson had previously pinned at the Mountain Crest Tournament a week earlier.  Well, this kid came in and caught Treyson in a headlock in the 1st round and pinned Treyson !   We were all so disappointed, none more so than Treyson.

At this point having lost, the only match left was for 7th or 8th place.   Treyson was up against Koby Creviston, another sophomore from American Leadership Academy.  Treyson had previously won a match against him at the Christmas Clash in December, could he do it again?

Yes he could !!  Treyson won by decision 7-0, and was going to the State 3A Tournament in 7th place.

State Tournament - here are some of the BIG boys who wrestle on the team
Ayden Thomson, Cole Keele, Rylee Creasey, Lane Henderson (in back), Ezra Cadena, and Treyson
Coach Dustin Rock and Treyson - during a time out on the mat
Thatcher (and Tagg - no picture) have fun hanging out with friends during the long days at the tournaments.
Sure love these kids.
The whole Fam Dam !
These are the boys that went to State this year.
Drew Korth, Will Korth and Rylee Creasey were State Champions

Here are the details of the State 3A Tournament - held in the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield, Utah, February 16th & 17th.

Treyson's first match (Championship bracket) was against Brady Freeman, a sophomore from South Summit who had placed 2nd in his Divisonals (not our Divisional).   Treyson wrestled smart and tough, and won by a pin at the end of the 2nd round.  We were all thrilled !!

Second match (Championship bracket) was against Joey Scorsone, a senior from Grantsville.  Joey had taken 3rd in his Divisional tournament.  Treyson wrestled really good, and we think he could have beaten the kid on any good day, but unfortunately Treyson was pinned 34 seconds into the 3rd round.

This put him down in the consolation bracket, and who should he meet up with again, but Koby Creviston (sophomore/American Leadership Academy), who Treyson had previously won 2 times.  Would the 3rd time hold true?  Yes !  Treyson pinned him in the 2nd round.

This 2nd win of the State Tournament, would put Treyson wrestling into the 2nd DAY of the tournament, which is no small feat.  Many of his team mates did not get the chance to wrestle on the second day, because they had lost twice on the first day, and it is a "2 and out" tournament.

We were all hopeful and optimistic going into the 2nd day, and Treyson was upon against a senior from Ben Lomond, Noah Mann.  Noah had placed 4th in our Divisionals, and Treyson had never faced him before.  Again, it was one of those matches that we believe Treyson could have won on a good day, but dangit, he was pinned in the 2nd round, ending his bid for a medal at his first State tournament.

Treyson did really well, and if they had given out to 7-8th place at the tournament, we are pretty sure he would have gotten a medal.  Papa Rock was pleased, and said he had gone deep in the tournament.
We were sure proud of him.

After he was done wrestling, he was in a much more receptive mood to talk.  He gets pretty nervous before the matches.  I would too !!
Here is the wrestling team, with managers, and coaches
Can you spot Treyson in back?  Morgan High took 2nd place overall.
(The powerhouse Juab took 1st by a wide margin)
We can hardly wait till next year, when we'll have TWO wrestlers on the Morgan High team.

Memories - Climbing trees

When I was young, some of my most happy times were climbing trees.  Our neighbor, Hillard Williams had a big beautiful tree in front of his horse pasture.  It had a fence on both sides, and was so easy to climb up and climb in.  If I close my eyes, I can still almost remember exactly where and how every limb was placed, and just where I would put my hands and feet to climb where I wanted to go.  That was 50+ years ago..........., and I can still remember the fun I had.  Grandma Tonks' had a big old Box Elder tree too, and it was great fun.  I don't remember climbing much at Grandpa Dickson's, probably because it made Grandma Dickson too nervous.   I'm glad we have that one old tree at the property, that the grandkids can climb all over.  The Swiss Family Robinson treehouse was so amazing and enticing to me - probably my first case of ENVY !!   Those were the days :)

Memories - Phone Books?

Who would have ever thought that these would go by the wayside?  They were a much needed staple 20 years ago, and now?  Everything is on your phone, and GOOGLING it gets you anything you need.  Times sure have changed !!!

Memories - Old School Skating

I had a couple of pairs of these as a young girl.  You could make them fit your shoes, by loosening the bolt with a key, and stepping in and making sure your shoe fit just right, then tightening it back up again.  We didn't have much cement at our house, and the road asphalt was much to rough.  Seems to me I can remember skating on the cement floor of the basement though.  I didn't put them to much use though, seems like they were more trouble (getting in to) than they were worth.

Memories - SLUG BUG LIGHT BLUE

I can't say I "learned" to drive with a clutch, but I did learn to drive a stick shift as a teenager.  Dad had that old blue Ford, and he even had one of these SLUG BUGS, a light blue one.  I wonder what ever happened to that thing?  I think it was sold before I was married, so I think he only had it for a year or so.  Now a days, you don't see many on the road, so I suppose the SLUG BUG game has gone by the way-side.  After we were married, we had an old orange Maverick, and it had THREE ON THE TREE - That was fun to drive also, excepting for the night that Roger pulled me home (we were living in Milton at the time) in mid winter, in the dark...... That was a horrible experience, one that I have NEVER let be repeated.  I truly thought I was going to die.  That old car must have died also, it was a junker.

Memories - I must be a true warrior !

They don't have these anymore that I'm aware of...........too DANGEROUS !
Boy we used to play the heck out of the one on the old elementary school grounds back in the day.  It was alot LOWER than this one, and you had to be careful not to get your foot under the metal, as it was only an inch above the ground.  Seems like someone was always getting hurt on it.  The merry go round (as we called me) was located directly behind the building where Pretzelmaker was located.  There were tricky bars there too - also a thing of the past - again.....to DANGEROUS for kids of today, and I think swings.  There was an opening in the fence, and you could walk through the fence, along side the cinderblock building after school, straight to Jay's Drive In.  The fire station wasn't there, and it was just a vacant field, all the way to 100 WEST.  I would cut through Jody Robison's lot, climb the back fence, go through the field, and climb/open the gate to our garden, and I was home.

Those were the days - I sure loved growing up in Morgan as a young girl in the late 60's.  I started kindergarten in the fall of 1966, in the old high school (before it was torn down).  I think they were building the new high school about that time.  The kindergarten was located on the main floor, just to the right as you came in the front doors.  My teacher was Miss Compton.

Memories - Life Saver Books

Once a year - only on Christmas.  We'd get a Lifesaver Book.
This was always a favorite of mine.
I LOVED BOOKS - and to have a candy combination with a book?
Life was so much simpler in the 1960's

Happy 10th Birthday - Thatcher

Per tradition - we are gifting the kids with more picture books for their birthdays.  They sure seem to like them, and we love to sit with them as they go through them.  I've started adding QR codes, which allow them to view the video that happened that day !  That seems to be a hit.
Loved what CJ had to say about Thatcher.
Sure love that kid - Happy Birthday Bud !!

Memories - OUCH !!!

Mercurochrome didn't hurt as much as Merthiolate - I remember that !

Mom probably still has a bottle in her medicine stash - I'd bet money on it !!

They contained MERCURY!!

Merthiolate is a mercury-containing substance that was once widely used as germ-killer and a preservative in many different products, including vaccines. Merthiolate poisoning occurs when large amounts of the substance are swallowed or come in contact with your skin.

It's funny the things we didn't know would hurt us when we were little (even though our parents were BIG!)  I can remember that dad had a bottle of ACTUAL mercury up in the cupboard, and every once in awhile he would get it down, and pour a little "puddle" out on the counter or floor, and we would crouch down around it, and move it with our fingers.  It was silver, and would move and separate.  We thought it was so so cool.  I don't remember him ever telling us it was poison (I'm sure he didn't know then?) - or to wash our hands after we were done (maybe he did tell us and I just don't remember).

We definitely didn't want Merthiolate  on our owies - because it would sting like the dickens.  We didn't pronounce it with the "R" either - it was either Macurachrome, or Muthiolate.

Memories - My how things have changed !

This is exactly the car seat my mom had for her kids.  I remember when I had Ambure in 1978, that mom still had it.   She also had a car bed, that you could lay a baby in the back seat of a car.  They used this with me, as they would travel from Salt Lake City to Morgan quite a bit.  We got another car seat that was a little bit ,more padded with Ambure in 1978, but was still basically the same thing - totally unsafe.  I'm sure glad our babies have SAFER car seats today !!

I'm not sure when seat belts came into play, but I know we never used them as kids.  Some of the best times were climbing up in the back window of our car, laying lengthwise, and basking in the warm sun on a cold day while we drove somewhere.    Of course, we grew, and didn't fit there for long !

Memories - Old appliances

This is so true !!
I can't count the number of refrigerators, dishwashers, and washing machines we've gone through since the late 80-90's.   Our first washing machine, bought in 1979, shortly after Ambure died, lasted until 1993 when we moved to our new home.  I'm convinced the only reason it went kaput, is because it was in storage for a few months.  Since that time (especially since moving into our new house in 1993), we have had appliances break over and over.
The appliances of the 70's were surely colorful !  Mom's fridge was avocado green.  Green, Yellow, or Brown............the color of the 70's.  We had an old fridge when we were first married, that belonged to Marge and Wayne Mortenson.  It was a relic !!  I wish I had a picture of that old thing.  You opened the door, and the freezer was inside at the top.  You pulled down the cover to open it.  Ice would constantly build up, and I would have to unplug and empty the fridge, and put pans of boiling water in the fridge, and let it heat up so I could chip the ice out of the freezer portion.

Memories - Snow

This is how I remember snow when I was a little girl.  ALOT of it.  I do believe in global warming, our winters these last 20+ years have definitely been less than I remember 40-50 years ago.  The year Camryn and Manda came to live with us (Winter 2004-2005) we were walking on the Mickelsen Mile during January with just a jacket.  Also, 2013-2014 was a very warm and mild December with no snow.

Memories - Kool-Aid drinks

We had this ALL THE TIME.  I think you could buy them 10 for a dollar.  Mix with 1 cup of sugar, stir in a pitcher of water, add some ice cubes, and this was the drink of choice for lunch or dinner.  We usually had black cherry, as this was our favorite.  Takes me back !!
