September - What's up with me and Roger

For Labor Day we had a quick impromptu cook out.
We've only had 3-4 cookouts at the Property this year :(
This is when Traci cut Roger's hair for the wedding.
I wish he would get it done monthly, but he refuses.

Mom's sunflowers grew well this year also.
Sunflowers are such happy flowers.
Good onion crop this year.  Drying them out in the shop.
My favorite pan (from my Grandma Dickson) broke again.
I got this in 1995 after Grandma died, and the original handle lasted until 2008, then I had Craig Nelson replace it for me.  It's lasted till now, and I've taken it back to Craig.  Hopefully I'll get it back soon.
Relaxing on Mom's porch
Doing the corn.   Such a slick way to do corn !
Here's how it is done - see video
Football game - like my hat ?
Roger doesn't haha
So glad the garden is mostly 99% done.
Relief Society activity at Lynette Durrant's.
We made flower arrangements.
I made one for Angie and Jessie for their birthdays.
Can you spot me in the back?
Emily Pulver, Vinda Preslar, Me, Sara Rice, Lisa Streadbeck, Riley Streadbeck, Annette Streadbeck, Amy Fairchild, and Lynette Durrant (Denise Hansen is taking the picture)
Tiana (my niece) has been traveling ALL over Europe.  She sends me post cards, and I LOVE THEM !!
We did tomato juice and salsa this year.  Always glad to get that done.
Still mowing hard.  I like the exercise I get, but will be glad when it's over.
LuAnn went to Branson MO with friends.
Our old 2004 Saturn bit the dust  - we gave it to Kars for Kids.

Labor Day Weekend Fun

We made two batches of salsa - YUM !!

These three were camping with their mom and dad at the Property, and came over to sample the salsa........

.......and we fixed some pancakes.................

........and Payson helped with the salsa

Bright gathered eggs

Another day we had lunch at the Property, and cooked corn from the garden.

Miss Bexlee loved the raspberries

Checked out the pumpkins :)

Everyone wanted a ride on the Vespa

Bex and Bright helped "The Yard Master" Grandpa spread grass in the garden.

Miss Piggy got the left over corn cobs

Everyone came over for a sleepover !  Even Treyson !! (of course I had to bribe him with NO BAKE COOKIES - haha)

We had "cardboard" pizza instead of my usual.... Bright is such a good helper

My good friend Angie sent up some mini pumpkins from her garden, and the girls had a great time painting them.

They also helped me do my first batch ever, of dill pickles !!

On Labor Day proper, everyone turned out to help The Yard Master

I was called at one point, to BRING LEMONADE !!! - they were too hot :)

And of course we prepared for the FIRST FREEZE of the season........... but as you know, the wind was so bad, it tore all of the tarps from our tomatoes........ and did a number on the vines, and so the next night (when it was for sure supposed to freeze) - we just said to heck with it.  We picked anything that was remotely pink ..........and you know what?  I don't think the tomatoes were touched !?!?!  I guess we'll have to see.  The vines look like heck, but if all of those green tomatoes turn......... I'll be making more juice !!!

We Labored !! (Moving the Sod)

Zac and CJ were given the fantastic opportunity to remove some sod for Wilkinson Construction's project of building a road a the Middle School.   We started on Friday, with a rented sod cutter that was not really up to the task.  It was a struggle (for a few hours), both with the sod cutter, and a learning curve on Roger D's part.  Thank goodness we were working in the shade.......however we were having to deal with tree roots too.   As he cut, Jim and Shirlee and myself, would roll the sod up, and cut it and move it, so he could come back along for the next cut.
By afternoon, Landon and the kids had come up to help, and it was a BIG HELP.  I was just about tuckered out !  The sod cutter left much to be desired, and was only set up to get 12 in wide strips (too narrow!), and then it had a mechanical issue (really?!?!?)

We had great spectators !

By 3 pm,  CJ was back with TWO BRAND NEW SOD CUTTERS (from Home Depot), and then they really kicked butt.  We also had some help from Zac's workers, Ricky, Hagen, and Trevor, and the Belinski brothers (and friend).

My little Walrus :)
The kids were so so good.  They just played around, didn't make a fuss or worry (except for the knives - haha)
Look at all of the beautiful sod !!
With two little boys in the background (playing with knives of course)
Grandpa Jim hard at it !
Tagg got in on the helping action too !!
That sun is going down, we better hurry up !!
Go Treyson !!
They sure got dirty !!
The sod was transported to Zac and CJ's and we proceeded to lay it down.  It's hard to tell in this picture, but it was getting dark, so I took..............
The little kids home and popped them in the tub.  You should have seen that dirty water !!!
Next morning, bright and early.  This is where they ended last night when it got too dark to see.
The hillside was all done !!  Yahoo !!
We started early.  It was still kind of cool.  One of the sod cutters from Home Depot broke down, and then it was just Roger D on one.  Cutting and Cutting and Cutting.........  his arms were JELLO by the end of cutting (about 1pm)
Zac and CJ and Rex (the dog)
Making plans for the day.
Look at all of that sod !?!?!?!
Who will get it loaded????
Landon and Zac and a WHOLE CREW FROM MORGAN 5TH WARD !!
Les Adams, John Porter, Ron Hales, James Fawson, Jaden Mecham, the Carter boys, the Porter boys, the Hales boys, the Russell boy, the Sanders......  and many more I missed.
We just kept cutting, and cutting, and rolling, and loading.
And unloading and placing sod

Chili for lunch !!

1pm - Bare Empty ground here !

New Grass HERE ! !!!
Only 3200 square feet missing (that will need to be filled in)
The wonderful sprinkling system that was all in place, is now watering this wonderful sod in, and in a couple of weeks time, it will look FANTASTIC.  What a blessing, both in product (sod), and HELP !!  We couldn't have done it alone, that's for sure.    Watch this fun video below with all pics from the 2 days, and video and music too !
