How does our garden grow - Pumpkin/Squash Patch

May - we are getting started
Some industrious guy (Dad) decided to plant 4 rows this year !!!
10 per row, that's 40 plants folks
It was a struggle at first, and they weren't sure they were coming up, so they planted MORE - Yikes !!
Roger puts his grass cuttings here to keep the weeds down.
June - they are coming up pretty good.
And a little bit more.............
We water 3x a week, and every day we water, we remark on how much they have grown.
July - WOW, they are taking over
and more...................
Until finally, you can't even walk between the rows......
If you look close, and push the leaves to the side, you can see pumpkins and squash.
Most of the garden is put to bed, but we are waiting for a frost to knock down the leaves/vines.
There we go - mid September we got our wish.  Now you can see patches of orange and yellow.
Wow, I wanted to get a total count, but seriously there were WAY to many, we are talking hundreds if you count the baby ones.
Harvest day in full swing.  Sure glad Erika and Aaron and Lizzie came to help. We were missing alot of our crew due to COVID, but we got it done.
We haul the vines down to the burn pile with the tractor.
We had quite a few BIG MACS this year
At the end, we had two big trailers full of pumpkins and squash.  Some of the different kinds of squash were Butternut, Buttercup, Acorn, Blue Hubbard, Green Hubbard, Banana, Pink Banana, Sweet Meat.  For the pumpkins, we had Howdens (traditional), Big Macs (huge monstrosities), wee be littles, baby boos, and a few green "Cinderella" ones, and some yellow ones, that we don't have any idea what they were, and some striped gourd like things.

All in all it was a GREAT year for growing pumpkins !!!

Cutting Firewood in the Uintas

It always makes me nervous until we get the trees down.  The first one was a doozie, made me awfully nervous.  Everything turned out okay though.  In all, we took down about 7 trees.  Enough to fill two trucks.
My man, still going strong at 63.  He's the hardest worker I know.
Thatcher was our master stacker
Glad to have a grandson that does the work of a man
This is part of what came off that first big tree
CJ wasn't feeling too good that day :(
A little break in the action
No.........they didn't all handle chainsaws :)
Great family pic though !

We're getting there !
We left at 11am on Labor day, and were home by 7pm - it was a good days work.
