Article for mom and dad’s anniversary

W. Lee and Veloy Dickson of Morgan will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house which will be held in their honor from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 12th at the Dickson Family Farm located on East Canyon Creek at 1280 S. Highway 66 in Morgan.

Both were born and raised in Morgan and graduated as classmates from Morgan High School in 1955.  They were married the following year in the Salt Lake Temple on August 10, 1956.  With the exception of being away at school and a sabbatical leave in Los Angeles, they have made Morgan their home and have enjoyed raising their children in this small, beautiful community.

Lee was born on July 29, 1937, the son of Reed and Anona Dickson.  After graduating from the University of Utah he taught at Weber State University for 34 years, retiring in 1997.  He has been active in the LDS church, serving in various church callings.  He also served as Mayor of Morgan City.

Veloy was born on August 8, 1937 to Frank and Flora Tonks in Round Valley.  After their marriage, she supported Lee during his college years by working at Hill Air Force Base and at the University of Utah.  Besides being a mother and homemaker, she worked as a secretary and has served in many church callings.

Lee and Veloy are best friends and more than anything enjoy spending time and doing things together.  They are interested in gardening, working on the family property and they both enjoy a good yard sale.  They have had many memorable experiences traveling and sightseeing with friends and family in their trailer.  They are active in their church and have served in the Ogden Temple and recently returned from a mission in Cambodia.

They are wonderful parents and are actively involved in the lives of their children and grandchildren.  Their children are Gwen (Roger) Rich of Morgan, Erika (Aaron) Bettinson of West Valley City, Mark (Carrie) Dickson of Morgan, and Lance and Tonya Dickson (both deceased).  They have eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Today is my mom’s 79th birthday.  I called her this morning and wished her Happy Birthday, and told her how much I loved her, and how glad I was that she is my mom, and how glad I am that she is back !

I wanted to mention about Landon’s special day last Saturday, August 5, 2006.  Actually I guess he had a couple of special days.  On July 30, 2006 he was ordained an Elder and received the Melchizedek priesthood by his grandfather, W. Lee Dickson.  Bishop Dwight Gaily, and counselors, Ernie Durrant and Matt Wilson participated in the ordination.  Those that were there were me and Roger, and Ben and LuAnn and Lee and Veloy.

Then on August 5, 2006, Landon baptized his cousin, Brayden D. Rich.  He also confirmed him. He looked so good in white, and did such an awesome job.  We were all so proud of him.  He called Bishop Fisher (President Fisher) to tell him about it.  Brayden’s brother Easton was also blessed and given a name, and it was also Chase’s birthday.  We went to Golden Corral in Layton afterwards, where Zac and family and Manda and Camryn joined us.

I didn’t mention earlier, but we went up to Ontario Oregon and met with Coach Rick Bauman of the Treasure Valley Community college Chukars.  We were really impressed.  Landon is way excited, and it will be a good thing.  I need to write more about it, but not now.

It is so hard to write it my journal – I’m not sure why.  I am struggling it seems with so many things, weight, reading my scriptures, work, being tired, Landon leaving, Manda and Camryn leaving in a few months, Roger and I seem like strangers, I’m so tired all the time……………..

I went to BYU Education week for one day last week, and it was an oasis in the midst of my turmoil-ed life.  I really enjoyed the spirit.  I have so many things I would like to write about, but can’t bring myself to do it.  I am so tired it seems ALL the time.  I’ve GOT to get back in shape physically, in order to go forward, but I can’t and I can’t dig myself out of this rutt………..help me.
