The Year 1999

January 7, 1999
Well I have a lot of catching up to do.  Landon did end up going with us to Mesa last year, and we had a great time.  Manda came home in October for a visit for a few days, and over the Christmas Holidays too.  We will be going down to get her, and bring her back to live at home on January 16th.  It has been an interesting 6 months for her in Mesa.  I think she appreciates home a little more now, but it will be hard for all of us, her included to have her move back.  We all hope it will only be for a short while, while she gets a job, car and an apartment.  She is planning on working at Taggarts, and getting another job also, and a really decent car this time, not a piece of junk like she had before.

We will be staying in Mesquite on Saturday the 16th, Las Vegas the 17th, and driving to Mesa on the morning of the 18th, where we will load up her things, and drive straight back home, arriving some time in the early morning hours of the 19th.  Roger's mom and dad are driving down to Vegas separately, and are planning on staying a week.  The Prescott's will probably drive with us.  I hope so.

In November, Roger and Landon and myself went to St. George to my UAC conferences.  It was fun.

We also just got back from a trip to Pinedale Wyoming with our friends and their families.  We went and took our two boys.  Roger and Annette Prescott went and took Lance (16), Shawn (13), Karly (8) and Blake (6).  Bryan and Jill Judd took their boys, T.J. (18), Wes (15), Jared (13), and Garrett (11).  Bret and Gaylene Kimbal went and took their boys, Kyle (17), Colby (13), and Chase (10), and Mark and Janene Walker went and took their family, Camille (14), Landon (13), Shawn (12), and Shersti (7).  We all had a great time.

We went on Wednesday the 30th of December, and got there about 8 p.m., and had enough time for the kids to play in the indoor pool.  Thursday we went to Horsecreek, Friday to Cora and the headwaters of the Green River.  Saturday, back to Horsecreek, and Sunday to Granite Creek Hot Springs, and swam in the pool out in the snow before going home through Hoback Junction, Alpine, Star Valley, and Cokeville.  We got home about 8:17 pm. on Sunday night.  Zac and Rog road their new 700 RMK's and thought they were pretty neat, especially Zac.  He is an awesome rider.  Landon road his own snowmobile (the 440), and did great.  He even rolled it (accidentally) and thank goodness he wasn't hurt.  Zac had also gone the week before Christmas with Dave Durrant and his crew up to Yellowstone area and had a fun time, even though he got his nose frost bitten.  Unfortunately we don't have diddly squat for snow around Morgan.  It's the PITS!!!!

I got sworn in for my second term on January 5th. (Monday)  Mom and Dad are down in Yuma, Arizona for the winter, and Grandma Tonks is up to Idaho Falls with Aunt Dawna.  Landon is going to stay with Mark and Carrie while we go down to get Amanda next week.  Zac will stay home alone, and take care of the critters.  The boys are getting their steers this Saturday, the 9th (my birthday!!)  I will be 38 years old.  I have been walking faithfully since November 1st, and feel good.  I hope I can keep it up!

We redid our basement these past few months.  We moved Zac into Mandy's old room, and Landon into Zac's old room.  We then took Landon's old room, and knocked out the wall between it and the TV room.  We have made one big family room for downstairs which is really nice.  It looks great, and I have made curtain toppers for all of the bedrooms downstairs, and the family room too.  We have moved a TV, VCR, and DSS modem downstairs, along with 4 easy chairs.  We couldn't get my favorite couch downstairs, so it is in my bedroom for the time being.  The carpet in the family room is nice, and we have coved it up the wall about 3 feet.  We also moved the computer down in this room too.  Then I got guilty, and figured Manda needed a room to come back to, so we PUT a wall up in the room that you come into when you come into the basement from outside.  It is a small bedroom, and the closet is really makeshift, but it will work.  We took the carpet out of Landon's old bedroom to use in Mandy's new bedroom. It looks great with blinds, curtains, etc.

Oh, and also I got new furniture upstairs.  It looks really nice.  Also we sold the dryfarm up on the hill to Ed and Sharlene Olsen for $8,000.

Gotta go now.

March 5, 1999
We just got back (last Sunday) from the annual Pinedale Snowmobiling (Adult) Trip.  It was great.  Those who went were:  Roger and Gwen Rich, Roger and Annette Prescott,  Bret and Gaylene Kimbal, Mark and Janene Walker, Bryan and Jill Judd,  Kevin and Cindy Bangerter, Shane and Janet Taggart, Lynn and Pat Hadley,  and Bart and Lori Richins.

We left Wednesday, the 24th? of February, got to Pinedale about 1 p.m., ate lunch, and then went up past Cora, to the Green River Lakes parking lot, and then went up on the mountains to the North West.  It was great.  What great snow!  They next day, Thursday, we went west to Horsecreek, and back up to the warming hut.  They day was mostly sunny, but got overcast and snowy in the afternoon.  It was great!  The next day, Friday, we went back to the parking lot at Green River, and got on the sleds, and rode about 70 miles North to Pinnacle Buttes, a cabin resort with hot tub, restaurant, gas, etc.  We stayed there over night, and came back the next day (Saturday)  The ride up Friday was okay, but we sure went over alot of bumpy mogels which we all hated.  The ride back on Saturday (we went another way, and it had just been groomed) was GREAT!!    When we got back, almost to the parking lot at Green River, we went back up on the hills to the west that we had played on Wednesday afternoon.  We had the best time ever!!  There was fresh new powder, and we hit some hills, and went down some steep hills, and had so much fun!!!!! Sunday we went back up to this area, but it was overcast and snowy, and we only rode until about 1:30 p.m. and then started for home.  All in all it was a GREAT TRIP!

The kids stayed home by themselves while we were gone, and got along alright.  Landon went down to my brother Mark's house on Friday night, and was brought home Sunday night.

Manda is working about 40 hours a week up to Taggarts.  Somedays she's glad to be back, and others she wishes she were still in Arizona.  She misses Therese.  She is planning on going back for a visit (plane) over her birthday.  She has gotten a new car, a Hyundai Accent 1999 model.

Zac finished the second trimester at school, and has started down at DATC in the mornings in their welding program.  Bryce Chapman, a former Morganite, is teaching the class.  He catches the bus at 6:50 each morning, and get back to high school about 11 a.m., takes the dreaded History class (required credit) and then comes home to eat a bite and head to work at Marvin Dawson's mink ranch.  He took his truck down to Bruce and Linda's last night to park it out in front to help to sell it.  I hope it sells finally.  He's asking $5,800.  After he gets done with this history class, he won't be going back to school anymore.  By going to DATC at night next year, and by working for Dave Durrant, and getting work release credit, he will have enough credits to graduate next year.   Zac is bummed out about his friend situation.  He feel he doesn't have any friends to hang out with, and this is somewhat true.  The friends he feels comfortable around, Jared, Dallas, etc. have girl friends, and he doesn't fit in with Kyle Kimbal and his group, and he is feeling lost and adrift.  I don't know what to do for him, except to pray he will find happiness in himself.  I don't want him to get attached to a girl at this time, but I want him to be happy.  Hopefully, he will be able to get this school behind him, and then hang out with Dave Durrant's crew somewhat this summer and next year.  I just want him to be happy.

Landon is in 5th grade, and is doing pretty well.  He loves his friends, and his girl-friend, Kristal Malan.  They have been going out for over a year now.  He is VERY social, and I wish he would hang with a different bunch of friends, but what can you do?  He is very much like Mandy, and I don't want him making the same mistakes that she has made.  He is on the edge, and drifts towards, the exciting, dangerous and wild side of life.  I hope he can make the right decisions.  We have had so much fun this year snowmobiling as a family.  Landon has his own sled, and is really good on it.  We are going to the Uintas tomorrow to go sledding.  We have had fresh powder the last couple of days, and it will be 50 degrees tomorrow, and it will be fantastic.

We got our taxes done, and will be getting about $1000. back.  Work is busy for me, but is going good.  I am working on putting together my 20th year class reunion.

For Mother’s Day

My mother, Veloy Dickson - is the best mother in the world.  She is always doing for her family and others, putting their needs before herself.

She is a great cook, and makes the best potato and macaroni salad, and steak in gravy, and pumpkin pie, and lemon chicken, and tomato cocktail, and the list goes on and on.

She is a hard worker. She helps my dad plant their garden, and then bottles and cans it all, and gives it to her kids.

She's always been something of a tom-boy, and let me tell you, it's FUN to have a mom like that.  When we were younger, it was always our mom who would take us to Como, and be right there jumping off the diving boards with us.  She would hike to the "M", and go on "gypsy jaunts",  and ride all the rides at Lagoon.  She likes to go to movies, and loves Star Wars, but absolutely HATES snakes.

My mom is the best mother-in-law you would ever find.  She is always supportive, and offers advice only when asked.  And when I have a fight with my husband, she ALWAYS takes his side.  (Sometimes this is kind of annoying!)

As my mom's own mother's health has failed these past few years, she has taken care of her daily, fixing meals, shopping, washing clothes, fixing hair, and taking care of her home and yard.  I know I will gladly do this for my mom too when the time comes, because above all - I want to be JUST LIKE HER.
