December 2006

December 1, 2006

Well, I got my Cingular bill, and it was $15.40 more than it should have been, due to text messages.  They said that someone had called on 10/22/06 (the day after you played CSI at Twin Falls), referencing cell phone number 801-829-8024, and said they were Gwen, and knew the last four digits of my SSN# and got text messaging reinstalled on 829-8024.  I have a hard time believing that you would do this.  I mean this sincerely.  I CANNOT believe that you would do this, and I believe you are totally honest with me.   I'm not sure how it was done...... and the thing I think is very strange, is that the text messaging did not start immediately, but on 10/30/06 (8 days later)???  - and the first message was an incoming text???  I'm not sure what is happening with this.  I got her to credit me $7.70 on my bill, and I had a password protection put on my account, so I don't believe it will happen again.  I don't know if you have my SSN#  laying around? for someone to get a hold of.........  I wouldn't think so.  I just can't figure out how this could have happened, unless I did it in my sleep?   Maybe I'm losing my mind.  Please let me know what you think about all of this.  I am worried and confused.

 December 1, 2006 – email from G & G Dickson to Landon

Boy it sure is cold here in Morgan, but then I guess we haven't fully adjusted after being in Cambodia.  Grandpa checked the temperature the other morning and it was 0 degrees.  How would you like to be out in that with just a short sleeved shirt on, or as Grandpa would say, "wearing only a pair of spurs."  I hope it hasn't been that cold in Ontario.  Just keep bundled up good.

We hope you are getting along fine and moving around a lot better.  Just remember to take it easy and not over do, especially with lifting or straining.

Grandpa and I went to the wrestles last night.  They were great.  Jaden really hung in there and it was good to see him get a pin.  He felt a hundred times better than last week at North Summit.  I've always said that wrestling is hard, especially when there are just the two of you on the mat and there can only be one winner.

We are looking forward to having you home again next week.  Study hard and ace those finals.

We love you, Grandma and Grandpa Dickson

December 4, 2006

What makes us happy?  It is such a joy every night about 10 pm……… we get a phone call from Landon who is away at school in Oregon.  It has become a nightly ritual.  One we look so forward to.  I don’t think he realizes just how much we enjoy it.  Landon is such a good boy, and always tries to make others happy.  He is so considerate of others feelings.  The other night I was on the phone to him, when some of his friends were leaving, and he said, “Just a minute” to me, and then I heard him say to his friends, “Hey – if you need a ride, call me !”.  That is Landon, always there, always offering a hand.  Landon probably doesn’t realize how much it means to us to hear his voice each night, and hear him recount the simple things he has done that day, but it is one of the highlights of our day.  We love him so much

What makes us happy?  Having a son who is willing to help us out when needed.  Zac came up yesterday and replaced all of the lights in our kitchen ceiling.  It was definitely a two man job, and Zac got up and down off of the stool (It would have killed Roger’s knee), and Roger handed him tools.  He is so handy.  We appreciate him taking time to help us, leaving his family and giving of himself to us.  I don’t know why Zac likes to work so much.  It must have been just the way he was born, a gift from our Heavenly Father.  We always try to help him out when he needs help with his “projects”, and we surely appreciate all of his help, like when he stepped in and went to work on Amanda’s bathroom in her new little home. I don’t think he realized how happy that made her. We love him so much.

What makes us happy?   Watching our daughter Amanda, who has overcome some set-backs in her life, make her way forward with such strong convictions.  She is such a good mother, a good daughter, a good employee, and a good person !  She is smart, and forward looking and thinking.  She has goals, and works hard to achieve them.   We know she will go far.  We appreciate her concern for us and others, and her willingness to pitch in to help us and her brothers.  She has tender feelings, and is always looking out for those same feelings in others.  She is very professional in her dealings at work, and others there have recognized that quality in her, and we know she will go far. Camryn surely has a good mother, who wants the best for her.  We are very proud of Amanda, and we love her so much.

What makes us happy?  The little people in our lives, Camryn Dee and Treyson Lee, are so special.  What a joy to have them around.  They are so different in looks and personality.  They will be like our three children, so very different, (you can hardly believe they are related!) yet so very loved.  It is hard to believe the feelings of love you can have for the children of your children. We always want the best for them, and we will always be there for them.  It is fun to watch them interact, and they remind me so much of Amanda and Zachary at that age.  Camryn is such a talker, and loves to be I the middle of all the action, and is so smart !  Treyson has such a cute grin, and is very watchful and quiet, absorbing all there is around him.  They are so innocent, and so loving, and so very precious to us.  We love them so much.

December 5, 2006

I had my face lasered again (2nd time) yesterday at Manda’s work.  Boy I’m swollen up like a Shar-Pei puppy today.  It didn’t do this last time – I can’t go to work looking like this !!  I’ve GOT to go to Roger’s Doctor appointment this afternoon, and also I wanted to go to the Joseph  - A tribute from Nashville tonight.  I hope the swelling goes down.  Did I mention, Manda is going out with Josh Cowart for the first time this Friday – I hope they hit it off.  Also, Zac took his Journeyman practicum test (residential) on Saturday, and he thinks he did well.  Landon doesn’t have much going on at college today, just studying for two finals tomorrow.  Well, maybe I can get some banana bread made today, and also the Christmas decorations up. Might as well be useful !!

December 12, 2006

Updates – Roger was referred to a knee specialist, Dr. Watson, and we went yesterday, and he is going to take 5 shots over the course of 5 weeks, of synthetic cartilage? Made from Rooster combs. We’ll wee if that relieves some of his pain.  If it doesn’t help much, then he’ll probably opt for a partial knee replacement, and ACL replacement.

The Joseph tribute from Nashville was WONDERFUL.  I have about worn out the CD listening to it.  My face DID recover, but I wonder if this is really worth it………… Zac has NOT heard how he did on his test yet, probably sometime this week he will.  Landon made it home, and it is good to have him home.  He is reading the heck out of Harry Potter 6, and of course partying with friends.  The first night he didn’t come home until 3:30 am, and I was NOT very happy about that. He ended up with C’s in all classes, except Math, where he got a B+.  I wish he would have done better, but oh well, at least they count as credits.  Manda had a good time with Josh on Friday, and they are planning on going out this week to lunch.  He came in the office yesterday to “chat”, but I didn’t say or ask anything because I didn’t want to appear the meddling mother, or make things “weird”.  Tonight I am going down with the YW/YM to temple square to see the Joseph Smith movie, and the lights.  Hope all goes well.  Here is what we are giving for Xmas this year.

Mom and DAD – going in with Mark and Erika to get them a TIVO

Ben & Lu – 3 lifetime chairs

Amanda – doormat, snow shovel, drill, canisters, clock and a gift cert for massage, and $50 cash

Zac & CJ – Garage door opener (installation and door paid for)

Landon – New razor phone, nice slack/shirt/tie ensemble, stacking game, Bluetooth accessory for phone

Camryn – doctors set, nativity set, animals to play with at Grandma’s, $50 into college fund, blanket

Treyson – truck, nativity set, animals to play with at Grandma’s, $50 into college fund, blanket

Email from Grandma Rich to Landon

Hey Babe,    How are you doing.  Your dad called and told me about the World Series.  Good for the Blue Team.  Have you made all of your pledge contacts.  How did you do.  I forgot to tell you that Keysto is going to work for Taylor.  Taylor and two friends went into business for themselves.  They are doing great.  Taylor called and asked Keysto if he wanted to come to work for them.  He decided he would.  He gave Randalls his two week notice.  He starts his new job a week from Monday.  How is the weather there.  It is really cold at night here but it warms up during the day.  Good luck on you 100 inning weekend.  Remember we love you and keep you in our prayers.  We are looking forward to Thanksgiving.  I know you are having dinner with the Dicksons but come up after.  Talk to you later..

                                    Love Grandma Rich

Well it’s been 2 years and one month since we learned that Manda and Camryn would be coming back to live with us.  They moved back on Oct 12, 2004 when Camryn was 5 months old.  She is now 2 ½ years old, and such a sweet little girl.  We love you so much.  It has been such an enjoyable 2 years !  Today she and Amanda are moving out into a little house across the street from my mom and dad at 71 N. 200 W.  We will surely miss them, but know that this will be the best for them.  We are surely glad they are staying in Utah and MORGAN !!

Email written to Bishop Fisher November 9, 2006 (Craig and Julia are Mission President in Billings, Montana (July 2006 - July 2009)

Candace Montanesi called me today, to tell me that she is engaged!   She will marry Mario Molina in the St. George Temple on January 27, 2007. Mario will graduate from Dixie College with a bachelors degree soon, and then they will come north to live so he can go to law school. He has lived in St. George growing up, and she met him at institute.   Her parents are thrilled, and really like him. She is working on the family home evening committee in institute, and has enlisted Tim Poll from Morgan to help her on this committee. I am so thrilled for her, and so happy that she has stayed strong and active in the gospel.  Her email is  candyice@yahoo.com  (They ended up divorcing)

Hope you an Julia are well and good in Missoula - Jared Olson either got his mission call yesterday (Wed) or next Wed.  I haven't heard yet.  I asked him what he would do if he opened it, and it said Missoula Montana Mission??  He got a smile a MILE wide.

Landon is coming home this weekend - in fact he's on the road right now.  Thanks again for all of the good influence you were and are in his life.  We love you both!  Take care and work hard (haha)

Love Gwen

His reply

Thanks So much for the information-

I always thought Candice would do well!!

I called and talked with Landon this past weekend- It was sure great to catch up on things-

I love him like son- thanks for sharing him!  I can hardly wait for him to get his call to the Montana Billings Mission- (Ha- what are the chances?!)  I would drop to my knees and thank Heavenly Father if that happened!

Sounds like a few changes in our Ward!  I don't know any of the details, but do we get back what we lost originally?

Thanks, Gwen - for being so kind to Jill.  I knew you would love her- and we all appreciate it!

Keep in touch

 My reply back

Yes we will get back exactly what we lost, and also the north side of Young Street from the "Y" to Jess Hopkin's home - we will pick up approx. 10 young women and the young men get quite a few also.  We are practicing for another "program" to present to the ward on November 28th.   More beautiful songs, and also there are three solos, Jake Nicolas, Sage and Anne, and Deborah Peay sings the Maker's touch which just makes you cry to hear her beautiful voice and the spirit is so strong.  Don't know if you heard, but they stole Lynelle from me, she is the new Stake Young Women's pres.  She is doing a wonderful job !!

Take care

Love Gwen and family

November 15, 2006

It sure did seem great to see you this past weekend.  Grandpa and I are looking forward to Thanksgiving and having you around again.  We picked up the frozen turkey yesterday (20 pounds) and the ham.

It is nice having Amanda and Camryn next door.  I can wave to Camryn when they leave in the morning and drop in at night after they get home.  Amanda is a good little mother and is enjoying getting things fixed up in her own house.  It is great to have her here in Morgan and not so far away in Arizona.  Her new stove was delivered yesterday but Lynn Mickelson wasn't able to get it installed last night.  Hopefully he can today sometime.

We had Treyson with us the other day when CJ went to Weight Watchers.  He is so fun to entertain and play with.  I had forgotten how fast little ones can be.  One minute they are by your side and the next minute you are hunting them down.  He is such a happy little guy.  He has discovered the hall closet with the toys and the bottom drawer in the kitchen that holds a lot of odds and ends (spoons, lids, funnels, etc.).

Grandpa has a doctor's appointment this afternoon for his back.  He has been having a little trouble with it lately.  I keep telling him to slow down and not try to do so much physical stuff, as he is getting older and with that comes aches and pains.  Of course, that doesn't mean he is to ignore the "Honey Do List" I have for him.

Well, take care and keep studying.  By the way, your new indoor facilities sure look nice.  I'm glad your Mom is keeping things updated on your web site.  You have great parents.  We love you and are pleased with what you are doing.

Love, Grandma (and Grandpa)

Do you remember me?  We sat through a baseball game together at TVCC in Ontario.

I was just wondering how your road trip with your friend went.  I hope all went well,

and that I didn't lead you astray with my suggestions.  How is your grandson doing at CSI?

Our son Landon is coming home this week for Thanksgiving.  He is our youngest and it

has been hard (although it is getting easier) to have him gone.  I have had a great time

with a website that I created for him.  You might enjoy looking at it.  It can be accessed

by going to www.landonrich.blogspot.com

Take care, I would love to hear from you.

Hi Gwen,

It was great to hear from you.  I visited Landon's web site - you have done an excellent job.

Yes!  Yes!  Yes!  We went on our wonderful trip.  I loved Thanksgiving Point.  Thank you so much for recommending it.  We would never have stopped there if you hadn't told me about it.  We spent most of a  day there and I dropped a lot of $$$.  I now have some fun treasures to show others.  I highlighted all your suggestions on the map.  We made it to all the National Parks, took lots of pictures, and followed a few trail.  We didn't make it to the Morgan loop, but we are going again in late April. We want to see those tulips blooming and we'll check out the Grand Canyon on our way to Arizona

I plan to see you this spring at the games.  The CSI Coach has decided he wants Trever to red shirt this year.  He is the youngest on the team and this will give him a little more time in the program.

I look forward to seeing you this spring.

Landon called yesterday and apparently he has a hernia.  He hasn’t been to the doctor yet, but from his description, we are sure this is what he has.  He has had it since he went up to college, and never said anything to anyone, because he didn’t want to spoil his fall ball season!  We will try and get him in for surgery while he’s home for Christmas.

"Fathers and mothers, pray over your children. Pray that they may be shielded from the evils of the world. Pray that they may grow in faith and knowledge. Pray that they may be directed toward lives that will be profitable and good. Many of them walk a very difficult road with countless problems and great perplexities. Plead with the Almighty that they may be guided, blessed, protected, inspired in their righteous endeavors. . ."

Landon I want you to remember (as I'm sure you do) that you have many people praying for you in all that you do. We love you so very much.

LOVE MOM

Landon went to the doctor up in Ontario last night and he has a double hernia.  An inguinal hernia which is in the crease of his leg, and a scrotal hernia which is in his scrotum.  The doctor said you do not usually see two at a time. Landon is not in any pain at all at this time.   Our plan is to have him come home as usual, and then after a wonderful Thanksgiving day, we’ll go down to the emergency room on Friday morning, and hopefully they will see him, and admit him and do surgery on him on Friday.  If he is well enough, he’ll go back to Oregon on Sunday evening as planned, and if not, he will take a couple of extra days at home to heal up. We pray for the Lord’s blessings upon him.

Gwenarooskie says:

Good Morning

stacy says:

Right back at ya!

Gwenarooskie says:

Do you want to hear some news from the Rich Family?

stacy says:

tell me some news

Gwenarooskie says:

Well, we all got called up to Ben & LuAnn's last night for a BIG family meeting

stacy says:

yes......

Gwenarooskie says:

We couldn't imagine what it was about - did somebody die, was somebody going to die??? or was it just a ploy to get us all there for some SALES pitch !?!?!

stacy says:

Come on!!!!   You're killing me!!

Gwenarooskie says:

LuAnn turned the floor over to Kelly, and he got up.......

stacy says:

GWEN!!!!

Gwenarooskie says:

and he said....

Gwenarooskie says:

Well, Me and Michelle and the boys have been discussing this for the past 6 months and we have come to a decision

Gwenarooskie says:

I personally was thinking.... new baby??

Gwenarooskie says:

Then he dropped the bomb shell

Gwenarooskie says:

Stay tuned for the next installment of this story tomorrow at 8 am

stacy says:

DON'T YOU EVEN!!!!!

stacy says:

Come on!!

Gwenarooskie says:

They are moving to Korea for THREE WHOLE YEARS !!!

stacy says:

noooooo

stacy says:

Why?

Gwenarooskie says:

For Kelly''s job at Autoliv - he is a BIG WIG !!

stacy says:

Is this a good thing for them?

stacy says:

How does Michelle feel?

stacy says:

Does she work?

Gwenarooskie says:

Yea, they are really excited.... Michelle went over for a week last month with the baby, and we all wondered WHY in the heck she would drag a 1 1/2 year old over there, and only stay for 3-4 days, but it was to pick out a house, check out schools, etc. etc.

Gwenarooskie says:

Michelle works for Nutraceutical, and she will have to quit

stacy says:

So they will take the boys and actually move and everything?

stacy says:

Did she pick out a house?

Gwenarooskie says:

Well, they won't move furniture (they could, as the company would pay for it....) but they will just take the money and buy new stuff, and only take clothes, basics, etc.

Gwenarooskie says:

The home is actually a huge apartment on the 16th floor of an apartment building

Gwenarooskie says:

Kelly will have a car.  They will be about 20 miles south of SEOUL, in a town called BoomDIM or something like that.  His work is another 30 miles south.

Gwenarooskie says:

The boys have to pass tests and write essays in order to be accepted into the school over there, and get this...........they will be leaving (Kelly and the boys) right after Christmas, as they have to be there for school on Jan 8.  Michelle will go with baby in Feb-March.

Gwenarooskie says:

He didn't talk money or anything to us, but I would guess that they are making it So worth his while, that he can't turn it down. They will not sell their home.... but rent it out

stacy says:

How do the boys feel about it?

Gwenarooskie says:

They are excited.  The final decision was left up to them

stacy says:

Does it make them nervous that they have to test and write essays?  Are they ok to leave their friends?

Gwenarooskie says:

They are a little nervous about the tests, etc. and I guess they are okay about the friend part.... I feel bad that Chase will miss most/all of his high school in Morgan, but he will be back to do his senior year here.

Gwenarooskie says:

and he's one of the youngest, so Kelly was even saying that he might come back and do 11th AND 12th here, but I bet he is so far ahead (with the hard schools over there) that he'll just do 12th.

stacy says:

Holy Cow!!  What news!  Was the whole family blown away?

Gwenarooskie says:

Yea..... it was kind of like 20 years ago when Linda and Bruce and family went to Okinawa for 2 years, and then extended for another 1-2 years...... but we knew before hand that they were "thinking" about it...... and when they finally made the decision it wasn't such a mind blower !!

Gwenarooskie says:

I guess LuAnn has known about it for the last 6 months (that they were thinking about it) and didn't say a word...... which is quite unusual.

stacy says:

At least they will be here for Christmas.  But then it will be sad for them to go.  Will they opportunities to come back for visits?

Gwenarooskie says:

Yes, the company will pay to fly the whole family home at least once a year, and if there is an emergency, death in family, etc. then they will fly them home for that also.

stacy says:

That is just crazy.  I don't think I could do it.  I'm such a home town girl.  That would have been a very hard decision to make.  But that sounds good that they (especially the boys) are so excited about it.

Gwenarooskie says:

yup - well I better get to work

Hello all – I hope you don't mind me using your email address in order to get tickets for Young Women's combined activity. Please just disregard……….as I have the confirmation on hard copy

Reply from Manda

you have got to be kidding me --- you are laughing inside right now -- i better not be getting junk church mail.

Reply from me

Hmmmmm I never thought of that??  You are now on their LIST !!!  heheJ - seriously if you do get something else, which I don’t think you will, it ALWAYS has a thing at the bottom to cancel and remove you from any future

Mailings……sorry hon, I was desperate !!  Landon has just left for the airport in Boise, and we are leaving between 3:30 and 4 to go and pick him up in SLC, then we are going up over Parley’s to North Summit to the wrestles, and won’t be home until late – do you need us to do anything for you except pick you up in the morning??  What time do you want us at your home in the morning?  Please call us on our cells sometime,  Love MOM

Friday after Thanksgiving – November 24, 2006

Landon was operated on for an inguinal hernia today.  All went well.  We showed up at the Emergency room at 9:30 a.m, and they took us back quite quickly, and we were in the bowels of the emergency room for 1 ½ hours, and they told us that if “the stars were aligned” then Dr. Moesinger would do the surgery later in the day, but that it would be a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnng wait.  I must preface this by saying that me and Landon kneeled down this morning and prayed that if it was Heavenly Father’s will that he get this done TODAY, that all would work out, and if not………..then we would know that it would be okay to wait until mid December.  At 11 a.m., they sent us back out into the Emergency room waiting room to wait, and after 3 hours there I was afraid they had forgotten about us, but then they pulled us back into another “back” room at 2 pm, and we waited there to talk to the doctor.  At 4:30 pm, I went to check again.  Roger had come and gone home, sure that the surgery would NOT be happening today.  They had apparently LOST us – they then transported Landon up to same day surgery via gurney, with a CUTE nurse.  He was finally operated on at approx. 5:30 pm,  at 7 pm the surgery was done, and we were home at 9:30 pm.  The nurses all LOVED him of course…………. And all’s well that ends well.  The doctor DID try an talk him out of the surgery, as he was worried about finals and all……………. But it all worked out.

Hey - FYI.... Boise and surrounding area have about 200,000 people, and Salt Lake and surrounding area are at about a million !

Also - Your silly mom forgot your BLUE shorts - they were still in the dryer, I'm so sorry.  Do you need them for the next two weeks?

If so, I can overnight them up to you.  Please let me know, and again, I am so sorry.

LOVE MOM

PS  Glad you made it home and all safe and sound.

PPS Try lying on your side, with your knees drawn up a little - sorry you had such a bad night.

I love you so much

Gwen helped Landon with a paper for English  - then wrote this email to Landon:

I have messed around with it - hopefully I haven't changed things too much.  I don't want to overstep and DO it for you........maybe you could look it over and compare it to what you wrote and see why I changed what I did.........

You have some great ideas, sometimes you just have to work at putting them together in just the right way......... I don't know if I'm doing you a disservice or not, but helping you - I hope not.  Please PLEASE go back over what you did and compare to mine, and if there is anything you want to change -

Change it - make it yours..........

I love you -

Email from Lee and Veloy to Landon

Landon we were so excited to hear about your games and are glad you did so well.  We can hardly wait until the game at Twin Falls.  Your Mom gave us a play by play description of both games and we were so thrilled for you.

Last Saturday's football games for Dallin and Devin were good.  In Dallin's game both teams had a touchdown within the first minute of the game starting.  Both teams were undefeated but I believe the other team was just a little bit better.  Anyway they ended up winning.  Dallin's team plays here in Morgan next Saturday.

Devin's team finally won another game and they really skunked them - like about 33 to 6.  On the very last play, Devin was carrying the football for a touchdown when the coach had him take a knee.  I guess that is what you call it.  It would have been nice to have him score but he didn't feel a bit bad about not being allowed to.  His team is through for the year but he is looking forward to playing basketball.

Grandpa and I have been cutting a few of the small quaking aspen trees down by the stepping stones and when the weather clears up we will take the bigger ones out between us and Martins.  Sure wish you were here to help out.

Our Missionary Reunion in Provo was nice and it was good to see some of the missionaries once again.  I have been going through our pictures from our mission so we can put together a slide show to present to the Culturette Club on the 6th of November.  Hope things work out okay.

Keep up the good work there at TVCC.  We think about you often and you are always in our prayers.

Love, Grandma (and Grandpa) Dickson

Email to Landon from his mom – 10/9/06

We missed hearing from you last night, after you told your dad you'd call back................I hope all is well with you, and that you are enjoying school and baseball. Please write me an email telling me about your day, and about some of your teachers and classes, and assignments, and how you did on tests, and how practice went and how your sore arm is.............we are worried about your arm.  I guess you have been pretty lucky as far as having no problems with soreness before.  How are you settling in to your new dorm?  How was church on Sunday?  I know it's not the same as Morgan, and you might not "like" the leaders as well, but the church is still true no matter WHERE you are and you need to take the time to feel the spirit.  I hope you can get to institute this week.  You might not feel like going but when you get there I think you'll find that it is worth it.  Sorry to be a nag.  I just love you and want you to be happy.  I guess JR Winn went into the marines for basic training yesterday, at least that is what Leisa told me.  She also gave me some pics of you and Josh at his farewell, and also of you and Josh's grandma.  Take a pic of you and your roommates and  send home if you can.  Please pray for Manda, Jim is giving her a bad time again, and she is pretty low. Don't let her know I told you this if you talk to her.  I love you TONs !!

Landon,

It was great to hear from you and know that everything is going fine.  We were so excited when your Mom and Dad told us about your awesome games.  It sounds like you really had a fantastic hit for your home run.  Wish we had been there.

We are still cutting down a few trees, getting things ready for winter and extending our sprinkling system into the little garden and natural area.  I do pretty good at keeping Grandpa busy.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Twin Falls.

Dear Landon

It was good to hear your voice today - I hope you liked hearing mine too.  Sometimes I can't express myself in talking and actions as well as I can in writing.  I'm sorry you were feeling a little blue today.  I guess we all have our ups and downs.  I bet it gets really lonely up there sometimes, and especially since you were home this weekend, you probably felt it more. We have confidence in you !  We know you can be an influence for good, wherever you are and whatever you are doing.  Try to do something for someone else, give service in some small way, even if it is just a smile or word of encouragement.  You will be surprised how much YOU will feel better if you are helping someone else along the way.  This can be in baseball, or studying, or just a smile, or thank you.  Look for someone who you think needs a lift.  Try this out, and let me know if it helps YOU out.  Remember we are praying for you daily and nightly, and thinking of you about a million times throughout the day.  Our Heavenly Father is there for you ALL of the time.  Have a prayer in your heart, while walking across campus, while sitting in class, behind the plate.  He knows you and He loves you, and He wants you to succeed, and succeed YOU WILL - without a doubt!!

LOVE MOM

Email from Landon to G & G Dickson

hey it was great seeing you guys this weekend. sorry i didnt get a chance to see you guys before i left. i love you and thank you for all that you do for me.. see you soon.

Reply back from them

What a wonderful surprise it was to see you over the weekend.  We had no idea that you were coming home.  I think everyone was pleased.  You are such a good example to all our family, especially Jaden.  We hope it is still nice weather for you up in Oregon.  It has turned off cold here and rainy but at least we didn't get the snow that they got down in Cedar City

Dallin's basketball team had a good game Monday night and was able to pull off a win.  He is quite the little hustler and made a basket.  They only beat by a few points.  We are heading for Salt Lake tomorrow night to hear Tiana in a music concert with her violin.  Mark and his family will be going to Judge Memorial on Thursday night to see the football game.  We sure hope Morgan wins.

We can hardly wait for Saturday to see you again and hope the weather is nice for the game.  We love you lots and appreciate the good things you are doing.  Always remember the things that are important in life and keep yourself on the right track.

I sense that you are discouraged.  Hang in there, remember we are praying for you, and we are not the only ones.  Remember what I said about cheering others up and helping them along their way - it will make you feel good too.  What did you think of Bishop Fisher's pics?   His daughter Jill is living in their home, and I am her visiting teacher.    I have felt the spirit whispering to me to call her, visit her, and we did take her a dinner in, and a book, and small gift (her littlest daughter Anna had tubes in on Monday) and I hope she knows how much we love her.  I would do anything for her.  When I think of all that Bishop Fisher did for you and me, and I know that he and her mom are praying for her, and hoping someone will step in and befriend her (because they can't be there).  That is how it works, we pray for angels to step in our place.  We are praying fro angels for you.  I love you, see you in a day.........

Love Mom

Dear Landon,

We sure did enjoy our trip to Twin Falls.  The weather was so beautiful and it was nice to see that part of the country again.  Most of all it was wonderful just seeing you.

It was too bad that TVCC didn't win but it was great watching you, you did so well.  When your Mom reported that you were sick a couple of days earlier, we were afraid you wouldn't be able to play and we were so looking forward to being in Twin Falls and seeing you and the TVCC team.  Boy, that is sure a neat looking bus you travel in and the picture we got of you with your big smile and the bus in the background is priceless.  We are so proud of you.

Grandpa and I had the chance to tend Treyson on Tuesday and Thursday nights while CJ and Zac went deer hunting.  He surely is a darling little guy.  I do believe we are going to have a musician in the family because he sure likes to jig when he hears music.  Grandpa even helped hold him still while I change a couple of dirty diapers.  I know you probably don't believe that, but it is true.

Zac and CJ went hunting again today (Friday) but we didn't tend Treyson.  CJ was so excited - she killed a three-point buck deer up Tonks Hollow (in Chit Creek).  They brought it to our place to hang in our little shed and Grandpa helped them skin it.

The weather is nice again but a little colder.  We had snow on Wednesday and that wasn't a bit of fun.  I guess we are just getting toooo old to enjoy that kind of weather.  We don't like snow mobiling but we do like being "Snowbirds" (people that head south for the winter).

Wish we could see you play again this weekend but are looking forward to seeing you at Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Mark offered his house for our "Dickson Thanksgiving Get Together" and we are going to take him up on it.  We hope to make some trips to Ontario in March to watch your baseball games.

Keep up the good work and remember you are always in our prayers and thoughts.  Stay close to the Church and remember who you are and what you represent.

We send our love.  Have a great game this weekend.

Love, Grandma and Grandpa Dickson

Another email the same day

 Landon,

I forgot to tell you about last Sunday.

Michelle Jones talked in our Ward (8th).  She will soon be leaving on her mission.  She always wanted to go to Winter Quarters in Florence, Nebraska, and that is what her mission area includes.  Michelle gave a really good talk which was followed by all our Aaronic Priesthood boys (about 14 of them) singing "We'll Bring the World His Truth" (Army of Helaman).  They sang so well, I could just picture all of them as future missionaries.

We attended the 6th Ward to hear Blake Preece talk.  What a wonderful missionary he must have been.  He said that he hadn't planned on or ever wanted to go on a mission, but how thankful he was now that he went.  Aunt Pam said he wouldn't even administer to the sacrament, but the Bishop made him do it once before he left on his mission.  He has really changed and he told Uncle Norris that he could have talked for another half hour or longer.  He was so filled with the spirit.  It is great to see the growth in these young men when they return.  They leave as kids and return as men.

Right now you are getting a little taste of what it is going to be like being away from your home and family, which some don't get a chance to experience before their missions.  I'm sure this will just help you in making the adjustment when it is time for your mission.  What an awesome missionary you will make.  Keep yourself on the right path and the Lord will continue to pour out his blessings on you.

 You are special!!!

 Love,  Grandma Dickson

September 2006

Sunday, September 3, 2006

I teach today in YW – combined meeting.  Manda and Camryn are in Phoenix.  Landon and I went to Ogden yesterday to do some school shopping for clothes, and also he wanted to pick up an IPOD and a camera.  Zac is working on his little tuff shed in his back yard.  We went over and laid on the lawn and visited with CJ and Treyson while Roger helped him.  Colton was baptized yesterday at Martin’s Cove.  We did not go – too far.  We take Landon up to TVCC next Saturday.  Manda and Camryn get home tomorrow afternoon – I don’t have to work because it’s Labor Day.

Later – Zac and CJ invited us over for dinner, deer roast, cheesy potatoes, jello, corn, - it was great !!!

Monday – September 4, 2006 – Labor Day – Vacation – No Work

We are all home today, Roger, Me, Landon – no work.  Manda and Camryn will be picked up from the airport at 1:55, and then all of us (including Zac, CJ and Treyson) will be eating up at LuAnn's at 4pm  yahoo!!

Yesterday, my lesson in Young Women’s went very well.  The Spirit was felt, and I think the girls grasped the message – Let Virture Garnish Thy Thoughts Unceasingly !!  You are what you think !!  You can’t watch a ½ hour of “Friends” and then go and read your scriptures and expect the spirit to be with you.  I cut up some of my CD’s which weren’t  good, told the story of the Dad, Daughter, Brownies, and Dog Poop.  I love those girls and leaders.  I hope they know it !!

This week will go fast – I can’t believe the Landon will be leaving – what we have worked and hoped for and strived for – college baseball!!!  And it’s finally here (5 more days).  Rog and Landon just got back from hitting baseballs – gotta go.

September 9, 2006  - Milestone Day

We drove over 700 miles today, to deliver Landon to Ontario Oregon, home of the Treasure Valley Community College Chukars, where he will attend college and play baseball for the next 9 months……………..believe it or not I did not cry !  I’m proud of him, and hope and pray that he will live up to his potential, both as an athlete, and young man, and a valiant son of God.

Sunday, September 10, 2006

Landon called this morning – as he was walking to church !! He said he went to be last night about 7:30, thinking he would wake up in a couple of hours, and he didn’t wake up until 8 this morning !!!  He said the dorms leave a lot to be desired – no drinking fountain !! He’s going to Walmart to get a case of water, and also MOSQUITO REPELLENT !!  He said it was BAD outside last night – he couldn’t even count the number of mosquitoes on his legs.  He met a few of the Sophomore players, and went to their apartment for a little while.  He said the food at the cafeteria was good………He didn’t have breakfast this morning (no time) and will have to skip out on church early so that he can eat lunch between 12 and 1.  Hopefully Chase Dixon, and some of the others he met in July will get there today.  I’m going to send him an email, so that he will not be lonely.  Hopefully he can figure out how to get hooked up to the internet tonight.

Monday, September 11, 2006

5 year anniversary of my Narrows trip, and also (9/11)  Landon called this morning (each of us  - Rog & Gwen) and he told me that he was eating well and liking the food, and he was getting ready to go to BB practice/first meeting.  Hopefully all went well.  I need to ask him about his roommate Jonathan, where he’s from, last name, position, etc (Keller, from Eugene Oregon, 1st base/pitcher).  And also if he has met any of the other catchers.  I know that Chase Dixon and Chase Peterson (roommates) are on the 2nd floor, right above Landon.  They went to church too.  Chase is from Rexburg, and played first base.  I need to ask him about internet hookup, and volleyball girls, and mosquito repellent, and how practice went, etc.  I miss him, and think about him often.

Manda and Camryn are STAYING IN UTAH !!!  I am soooooooooooooooo happy.  Prayers ARE ANSWERED !!.  They will probably be in an apartment of their own in a couple of months.

Landon called tonight.  They had a 4 hour team meeting today.  They are very strict – no long hair or facial hair.  White shirts with ties with going on the bus to games, no ball caps in the cafeteria or classes.  Jonathan KELLER is from Eugene Oregon – he’s Catholic.  This will be a good diversity for Landon.  He has met the other catchers.  One who has his girlfriend with him, *Kyle Kelly and who Landon doesn’t care for and thinks is lazy and has a poor work ethic *Lane Latin.  One who the coach had previously mentioned, who will struggle in ability, and another who is pretty good – just like Landon.  He says he is covered with mosquito bites (Landon).  He sounded tired.  They had the team meeting (4 hours) ate at noon, and worked on the field all after noon.

Tonight Manda broke the news to Jim that they are staying in Morgan.  It didn’t go very well………….Looks like it’s going to be a rough couple ??? of days, weeks, months……..who knows when it will end – probably in another 16 years when Camryn turns 18.  Manda is pretty discouraged.

Dear Landon – September 12, 2006 email to Landon

I love you !!  and miss you !!  I hope all is going well at college, I'm sure it is, because you adapt very well to different situations, and always have such a great outlook on life !!

I know if you stay close to Heavenly Father through prayer, that He will help you through the rough times.  Also, if you keep busy with Institute activities (Monday night home evening) that will help also.  I hope all is going well.  Take Care

Love MOM

Teresa Rhodes wrote me, asking how Landon was doing at College on 9/12/06 – this is my reply.

Well, he hasn’t actually started college classes – they are NEXT week.  But BB practice HAS started, WITH a 4 hour team meeting yesterday, where they learned they needed to be clean shaven, short hair no ball caps in the cafeteria or classes, and in white shirt and tie when boarding all game buses for travel.  Also – they are on CHUKAR time, which is 15 minutes earlier than what they are told to be there – so if it’s 6:00 A.M. practice time, they are to be there at 5:45. It is a pretty strict program, and Landon will like that a lot, because he often thought that Morgan coaches (all sports) were too lenient and lax, and that the teams could have been better, had they been harder on the kids.

Wednesday, September 13, 2006

I called Aunt Barbara today, and her little home across the street from mom and dad may be opening up for rent.  Manda can have it, if it does become available.  $500/month.  That would be sooooooooooo good.  Zac is to school tonight, and CJ and Treyson are not home.  He is getting his OWN van to drive for Durrant/Slate plumbing, and will be taking the Journeyman test soon.  CJ told Manda they are serious about adding on to their home.  Camryn played with her bubbles tonight outside.  I blew them – she had a hard time blowing them, but of course I’m a pro J.  Landon called tonight and said they were going ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL day long.  He sounded tired – but happy.  I hope he is wise enough to get enough sleep, and not stay up till all hours.  He said he is getting enough to eat.  All is well.

Email from Erika

Did Landon get off to Oregon?  What have you been doing lately?  Talk to you later!

Love Ya,  Erika

My Reply

Just got back from TVCC for the second time !!  Took Landon up last Saturday (9th) and he's been up there all week.  They had an alumni game yesterday, and we went up to that.  That is where a bunch of "OLD" players from previous TVCC teams come back to play the current team.  There is a blue and orange team (current players) - Landon in on the blue team, which is basically the "varsity" team.  He looks to be the best catcher they have, and we hope he will be the starting catcher. (Finished letter on Monday) He started classes today.  Roger heard from him mid-day, just before baseball practice.  Haven't heard from him tonight - I hope he's a FHE at institute.  He says that he has really had his eyes opened.............language, morals, etc. etc.  Hopefully he can live in the world, but not OF the world.  It is truly a Babylon out there.  Right now the plan is that he will fly home this next weekend, so he can attend two farewells (Josh Wilson, Leeds England mission and Jake Blazzard, Mexico City, Mexico mission) Gotta go................. LOVE YA

Gwen

hi mom... i love you too... i miss you guys... i miss camryn so much..  well ill see her this weekend for sure!!!! later... oh ya by the way im on the internet

Email Gwen sent to Liz Wiscombe

I was wondering if you could get a message to Julia, who in turn could get it to Craig.

Landon’s email address is richriot_21@hotmail.com, and he would like to correspond with the Bishop via email while he’s at college in Oregon.

Landon is doing great – he started classes yesterday, and has been practicing baseball with the team for a week.  They had an Alumni game on Saturday (16th) And Landon was on the “varsity” team, and we are confident that he will be the starting catcher – at least that’s what his dad says J He had a bunch of good blocks at the plate, and got a guy out, and went 2 for 3, with a double that was 6’ from being a homerun.  Anyway, enough of my braggingJ - I hope you guys did great in CA – I haven’t heard, and I’m writing this at 4:19 pm on Tues.

See ya Gwen

Gwen,

I am so glad that Landon is doing so good and having a great time.  Keep me up on all of the baseball news from Oregon, I love to hear how great he is doing.  He is one of my all time favorites and I really do want to know how he is.  We didn't do as well as we wanted, but we had a great time and it was good for the team to bond.  We don't stop going once the plane hits the tarmac. You have a great day and keep up the good work!!  You are awesome. I will send this to Julia and Craig.

Thanks for the news, Liz

Got your emails - that's great !!  I'm glad you are on the internet.

I hear it has been raining up there !!  I hope it hasn't interfered with your practices too much.  I hope you can make it to institute, and I was wondering if you get emails from them, letting you know what is going on?  I get them, and so I'll forward it on to you - sounds like fun. I love you, and look forward to seeing you this weekend - I've bought the tickets, and so USE THEM !!  You need to practice doing the Boise Airport this week, so when you come home in the future it will be OLD HAT  :)

I love you so much, you are such a joy to me and your dad.

Landon:

Just got your email from your mom...sounds like you're doing great and that you're playing a lot of baseball.  Hopefully Devin and Dallin will turn out just like you and become awesome baseball players!

Thanks for inviting Jaden to go up to Oregon with you.  He had a good time and I'm sure talked your parents heads off on the way home.  He said you will enjoy your new place once you get into it and that you'll appreciate the improvements since you've had to live in the older ones.  He's finding his way in football and has enjoyed playing and being on the team.  It's been fun to see him learn the game and to pay more attention to things when a game comes on.

It's a big world out there and you're finding out that there is more out there than Utah.  I hope you meet a ton of new people and create some lasting memories and relationships that will carry on long after your time there is finished.  Keep your chin up, smile, look people in the eye, and say "hello" first!

See ya.

Email written to Landon from Gwen – 9/20/06

Hey – guess what ?  I just booked you a flight home for Thanksgiving !!  You will come home Thanksgiving morning, and go back last Sunday night  Yahoo!!! – watch for an email thing about this, and don’t delete it !!

Also, I just remembered, with the NEW regulations for flying you can’t carry-on any luggage with anything liquid in it.  I don’t think you’ll be bringing enough home (this weekend) to even check a bag (for this weekend) – unless you need bring Sunday stuff to wear?!?!?  Shoes?!?!?  Anyway, if you think you can get by without checking a bag , and would only have a carry on bag – you need to remember, they won’t let you have lotion, toothpaste, shampoo, or EVEN THE CONSECRATED OIL on your key ring (better leave that in your car at the airport).  We can supply you with all of those things here are home for the weekend, or if you need to CHECK the bag (not carry it on) – then you can put all of your liquid stuff in there……………….. make sense??  I just didn’t want you to get up to the security, and have them make you throw away your little vial of oil – so leave it in your car.

LOVE MOM

Another email from Gwen

Landon I need you to go to the Student Services Center (where we signed you up the first day we went to TVCC) and get TWO forms and fill them out

Form 1 – Opt out of insurance form – sign that you HAVE insurance (personal insurance) and that you want to OPT OUT of TVCC insurance FOR THE WHOLE YEAR

Form 2 – Sign an Authorization of Release form, that will allow ME to CALL TVCC, and speak to them about your financial account – right now, I tried to call and ask a few questions, and they wouldn’t even talk to me !!

Please get that done as soon as possible  - Thanks dear !!

Dear Landon,

I miss you, too!  That's pretty weird, since we don't see you much!  I think it is just knowing you are officially away at school, all grown up....and I can see my own kids at that point in their lives in a few years!  The time really does fly!

I hope you have having fun - good, clean fun!  What I remember from my college days was that is was really intense, but really fun!  I had the most fun at the institute; especially after I got involved and met a lot of people.

Thank you for always being such a good example to me and my family, especially the kids!

We love you!

Love Always,

Erika, (Aaron, Tiana, Lance, Brian, and Colton)

P.S.  I wish you could have been at Colton's baptism at Martin's Cove!  It was so cool!  I will have to show you the pictures sometime!

Landon,  I was glad to hear from you.  It was good to talk to you on the phone the other night.  I keep in touch thru your dad.  He tells me when you talk to him.  We love you and miss you but we know you are going to be ok.  I hope we can get up to some of your games.  It will be good to see you this weekend.  All the family ask about you.  Layne was wondering about you the other night.  Kelly & family are leaving for Hawaii this morning.  We are taking them to the airport.  If I don't have to pick them up on the 1st of Oct. we will be up to see you play.  Again we love you much and are thinking of you always.    Love Grandma

Email from Gwen to Landon – Friday, September 22, 2006

Hey -

Rough practice last night??  Man....... I'm glad they let you EAT at least.  I guess it will just make you tougher, and weed out the ones who can't compete.  Hey, if you can't make your flight, we can just roll-over the money to purchase another flight, so no big deal.  I know this is all confusing, but I'll try to explain as simple as possible.

On the email from southwest for this weekend (make sure you don't get it confused with the one for Thanksgiving)

Click on the "LINK" in the email that southwest sent you, or go to www.southwest.com  and click on TRAVEL CENTER (at the top of the page) and then go down to Check In Online/Print Boarding Pass and type your confirmation number  5IJCIZ  (from your email) and your name, and you need to be able to be hooked up to a printer, so you can print out your boarding pass - you can't do this more than 24 hours BEFORE your flight departs, so you would have to do it later Friday night after baseball practice, or Saturday morning before practice.  Important - IF YOU CAN"T DO THIS - DON't Worry - you can check in at the airport.

Also, you can do this (print boarding pass) even if you don't know for sure if you will be flying (because of practice times)

What I was thinking is this - if you are ALL READY to go, and have everything loaded in your car,  you could do practice, and if the time was getting short, you could TRY to make your flight...........and if not, then just come on home via car.

Your flight leaves Boise at 10 minutes to 4pm, and you should try to be at the airport by 10 minutes to 3pm, and it takes almost an hour from Ontario to get to the Boise airport, so you should try to leave Ontario by 10 minutes to 2pm.

But - you absolutely don't need to be there 1 hour early, and you could probably make it to the airport in LESS than one hour (Don't drive like a maniac).

Important things to remember

NO LIQUID on your take-on bag

Checking a bag (not your take-on) will take more time

If you can print your boarding pass out at school, then you just go straight to the security checkpoint at the airport

If not, you'll have to check in at the southwest desk at the airport

You need your picture ID - Driver's license and your confirmation number 5IJCIZ if you are checking in at the southwest desk

Also - Take EXIT 53, and go to the left, and it will lead you directly into the airport - park in LONG TERM parking - look for signs that say Departure, Security Checkpoint, Check-in, etc. - Don't be afraid to ask someone !!

Keep us informed on Saturday, of what is going on.  Remember we love you and are proud of you, and can hardly wait to see you again this weekend.

Email from Joni to Landon

Hey Landon how are you doing?  Your dad told us about your last weekend and said you look great!! (as always).  How is school?  Are you staying out of trouble?  Just thought I would drop an email to say hello.  Maybe we will see you this weekend when you come home.  Be careful.  Keep us posted on tournaments and we will try to make one.  Talk to you later, Joni

PS -  Chans got a nice 5 point elk on Tuesday.  He was pretty pumped.  They had a good time hunting.  Later

Landon came home this past weekend. It was good to see him.  Josh Wilson’s farewell was good.  He leaves tomorrow for Leeds, England.  I have been working on a webpage for Landon, and am enjoying it VERY much.  I hope everyone will like it.

Email from mom to Landon on Monday Night (but he won’t read it till tomorrow)

How was your day yesterday?

Did you get a chance to go to Family Home Evening?  I hope you will take advantage of all the institute has to offer.  Remember to take time to feel the spirit.  I love you very much, LOVE MOM
