Mark and Carrie's Family

We will sure miss Dad (Grandpa D).  Although truth be told, I've missed my dad for a few years.  I haven't shed a tear about his passing.  That may seem strange, but I KNOW he is so so very happy to be free at last.

Mom is doing very well.  She is a trooper for sure, and we are trying to keep her busy, and checking in on her daily.

Erika and Mark gave such wonderful tributes at the funeral, and I hope to have the audio of those posted to family search soon.

Here is what I wrote for my talk at his funeral.

Thank you all so much for being here today to support our family.  We have felt your love with the kind acts of service, with food and with prayers on our behalf this past week.

I think everything has pretty much been said about Dad that could be said, either here in his service today, or in your kind words spoken to us about him in the viewing last night and this morning.

We all loved Dad and Grandpa, and more importantly we knew he loved us.  Family was so important to him, and he and mom worked hard their entire lives to provide for us, and to set an example for us to follow.

We are grateful that he is free of his Parkinson ravaged body at last.  He can see again !  I don’t think any of us can truly imagine just how hard it was for him to lose his sight, and his ability to talk and express himself freely.  The words were always there inside, he just had the hardest time getting them out. He became very patient as he learned to deal with his circumstances and never complained about the afflictions he suffered.

What a blessing that he was able to slip into heaven as quickly as he did at the end.  He had always worried just what he would have to go through to get out of this world, and in the end Heavenly Father was merciful and took him home quickly.  What a wonderful reunion he is having with our family who have gone on before.

Dad was a worrier, and so are many of us………. (Thank you Grandma Dickson).   But we assured him, and He knows that we will all step in to help and take care of Mom and Grandma with love and patience as she navigates a new life without him here on earth.

I know he would be proud of us today, as we have tried our best to honor him with our words of remembrance and love.

Dad had a good heart, and was always trying his best, and isn’t that all any of us can do?  He loved our Heavenly Father and our Savior, and He KNEW that there was life after death, and that we will all be together as a family in the eternities.

I then concluded with his testimony of life after death.

The Beginning of the End (of this mortal life only)

Who knew when I had the inspiration to have this photo taken on March 2, 2025, that it would be our last family photo together on earth.

On Monday, March 31st, Dad lost strength in his legs, and we put him in bed.
Hospice came on April 1st.  What a blessing they are.  By Thursday, April 3rd, the nurse said he probably wouldn't make it through the weekend, and sure enough, at 3:40 am on Saturday morning, April 5th,  Dad went home to heaven. It was very peaceful, and he just slipped away.

What a reunion it must have been.  Lance, Tonya, Ambure, Tenzin, his parents and sisters.............

Happy Birthday Mom (and a belated one to my Dad also)

Mom is 87 years old today, and Dad had his birthday (also 87) 10 days ago.

When we are this young..........
It is hard to believe we will ever grow old

But it happens.......
I'm so grateful for the Plan of Salvation, and my Savior, Jesus Christ who had made it possible that we will all live again after we die, and that we can be together forever as a family.

Tulip Festival

My sister Erika, has been working a little bit at the Thanksgiving Point Tulip Festival.  She was able to get tickets for us, and one chilly morning (May 3) I took Mom and Dad down for the tour.  It was very beautiful, and so nice to spend the time together.  We had a golf-cart to drive around in, and we were there right when it opened (9am), and it wasn't crowded, and with our jackets on, it wasn't too cold.  The sun peaked out, and we finished up just as a hail storm started, and so it worked out perfectly.  Thanks so much KUK !!  Love you !!!

Happy Birthday to my Dad - with a surprise Heirloom Radio Restoration

This is a 1939 Zenith (9-S-367 Console Radio
It was my Grandpa and Grandma Dickson's radio, and I remember as a little girl, playing with the fun spinning dial, and pushing the buttons, in the "back bedroom" of their home.  I never remember it working though.  After they died, my dad got it, and was always going to get it fixed up  and working himself.  He had the knowledge, being an electrical engineer.  As things tend to happen, it never got done, and now with his Parkinson's and failing eyesight, I knew it never would.

It was eventually moved to the shop, with an old sheet covering it.  Dusty and forgotten, I would occasionally look at it with sadness. Then I had an idea..........  What if I could fix it up?  How hard could it be?    Well, it turns out - pretty hard.  But I found "a guy" in Salt Lake (small miracle) - and within a matter of a couple of weeks, he had it FIXED and WORKING !!

He has restored 4 (5 now) of this exact model, and he said this was by far the best sounding, and best shape he's ever worked on.  He said it was a PLEASURE to work on such a good old radio.

Me being me - I couldn't wait till the 29th to give it to Dad on his 83rd birthday.  So about a week early, on the day we picked it up from Salt Lake, we took it to their home, and turned it on. Surprise, Surprise.  Dad was very pleased.

Happy 83rd birthday dad........... with an 81 year old family heirloom radio to keep you company.  Love YOU !!

Happy Anniversary - to my wonderful parents

Happy 60th Anniversary
Lee and Veloy Dickson

Dad and Mom will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with our family at “The Property,” our favorite family fun place and picnic area on Saturday.

They were married August 10, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple.  Mom worked as a secretary at Hill Field and the University of Utah while Dad continued his education.  He graduated in 1964 from the University of Utah with a PhD in Electrical Engineering.   He taught at Weber State University and retired from there in 1997 after teaching for thirty-four years.

They are active members of the LDS Church and have served in many callings.  They served a mission together in Cambodia and were ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple for nine years.

Dad was the family’s handyman, a job that he has now passed on to Zac (his grandson).  He enjoys growing a garden and supervising the family in whatever they are doing.   Mom keeps busy with Family History and Indexing.

They are the proud parents of five children: Gwen (Roger) Rich, Lance (dec.), Erika (Aaron) Bettinson, Mark (Carrie) Dickson and Tonya (dec.).  They have 12 grandchildren and 7 (soon to be 8) great-grandchildren.

Friday and Saturday

We watched Payson and Brightyn for a few hours on Friday while Landon and Kacey sent to a sealing at the temple.  We had a fun morning, building blocks and knocking them down.  Payson was "HULK", and Brightyn was "Princess".  We built a fort, and had fun around the house, then we went to visit Grandpa and Grandma Ben.
Afterwards we came home for lunch.  I fixed a peanut butter and jam sandwich, but Payson didn't want any of that, so he decided eggs would be better.  He's a good little cooker :)
Later we went outside and watched Grandpa Roger mow the lawn.  We hung out under the trampoline for a little bit..................
Brightyn had a fun time too, even though this picture doesn't show it.
He's going to be a Crossfitter !
Brightyn too !!
Catchin' some AIR !!
Saturday, Roger and I went with Mom and Dad to Young Kia in Kaysville.  They ended up getting a Kia Sportage.  It's a cute crossover vehicle.  White (just like mom wanted).  I think they will enjoy it very much.

Salsa !

Here I am - grinding onions...........and crying.......

Dad donned plastic surgical gloves, and did all of the HOT peppers.  He stripped insides and seeds out, then ground them up.

The tomatoes are ground up in the Bosch mixer

But first, mom blanches them to loosen the skins, then painstakingly peels each one.

All of the HOT peppers DONE!

After the garlic, onion, peppers and tomatoes have been ground up, they go through the blender once more to make them even finer.

It takes many big bowls and pans to get the job done easily.

Then the combined mixture goes on the stove to "cook down" for a couple of hours.

More ingredients, Cumin, Oregano, Pepper, spices go into the mixture to give it JUST the right flavor.
