More cemeteries........... Ancestors and relations

The Porterville Cemetery

Roger's Great - Grandparents on his mom's dad's side - Suzanna and Lester White. I think Suzanna died at a young age (40 something). She was peeling an apple or something, and cut her finger, and developed blood poisoning. How sad. Thank goodness for modern medicine.

My Great Grandpa Dickson and Grandma Dickson - they both walked across the plains when they were children, with their families. They had my Grandpa (Reed) when they were quite a bit older - 52 & 46

My Great GREAT Grandpa and Grandma

Next we moved on to this tiny cemetery where my Grandma Dickson's parents and grand parents are buried.

You can hardly read the names, but this is Anna Eliza and Sanford Orin Porter, my Great Grandparents on my dad's mom's side

And HER parents - Metta and Baltzer Peterson
My Great GREAT Grandparents.

Then we went back to the South Morgan Cemetery

Here is my Great GREAT Grandparents on my mom's dad's side. Martha Derricott Tonks walked across the plains. One day she was tired, and lay down to rest and fell asleep. The wagon train went on without her. Her husband thought she was helping in another wagon. When she awoke, she started walking, hoping to catch up. She came to a river, and couldn't cross. Some men came along, were teasing her, and she was scared, but they finally helped her cross on their horses. Finally just before nightfall, she met up with her husband who was coming back to look for her.

This is their daughter Mary.

This is Roger D's Great Grandparents on his mom's mom's side.

This is my Grandpa Tonks' brother. He was only 24 when he was killed in an accident at a sawmill. The blade came off the saw, and struck him in the chest. My grandpa was only 10 years old, but he remembers seeing him on the kitchen table, and his chest had little "teeth" marks from the blade. The power of the blow had stopped his heart. Grandpa was only 10 years old. When he told the story later in his 90's he still became emotional talking about it. I know it must have been a glorious reunion when they again saw each other after 80 years apart.

This is my Uncle Larry. He died from Leukemia at age 42. He left a wife and 6 little children.

Another view from the cemetery

Aunt Carol - Roger's mom's sister

Clear across the valley

Roger's Aunt Clara Beth and Uncle Grant

Roger's Aunt Lene and Uncle Gail

My cousin Val - he was a successful jockey, but was thrown from his horse during a race and died a few days later.

These are my Great Grandparents on my mom's dad's side.
For those of you not from Morgan - TONKS is pronounced "Tahnks" not "Tunks"

We traveled up to Henefer Cemetery to check out my Great Grandma and Grandpa Dawson's grave. She is my mom's mom's mom :) She's the only GREAT grandparent I ever knew. She died when I was 10 years old. I can remember she played checkers with me.

Next we traveled to the Croydon Cemetery.
Jemima and John Toone. Jemima joined our church in England. Her family never did. She left for America, and never saw any of them again. She traveled with the ill-fated Martin Willie Handcart company. John Toone, her future husband, was with the rescue party. They were my GREAT GREAT GREAT Grandparents.

Emily Judd Toone, and Felix Pico Toone - My Great GREAT Grandparents. I like to give my mom a hard time. Grandma Toone was alive until I was 3 years old. I had the chance to get a FIVE (5) GENERATION picture with me, my mom, Grandma Flora Tonks, Grandma Ellen Dawson, and Grandma EmilyToone.....................but it didn't happen. That's okay mom........... you just need to live another 20+ years so that we can get one with YOU, ME, Manda, Cam, and Cam's baby. Deal?
