The Screamin' Mimi - Thermopolis Wyoming.

In 1971 or 1972, our family headed up to West Yellowstone, through the park, out the East entrance at Cody, Wyoming, and down through Wyoming stopping at Thermopolis where we spent the afternoon swimming at this place which was much like our hometown Como Springs.

There were a few different pools (just like Como), and the one thrilling thing at the time was THE SCREAMIN' MIMI

As I recall, you picked up a wooden board that had wheels on the bottom, and carried it up the hill (see that hill in the background?).  You climbed up wooden steps, and then set the board on a track (similar to a small train track), and it was basically a track shaped like a slide, and you climbed on and FLEW down the track, and into the pool, skimming across the pool for quite aways on the board before sinking.  You can kind of see the wooden stairs in the background, just above the storefront sign (NG in Swimming).

I can't remember how many time we went on it, and it was Dad who carried up the boards for us.  Looking back, I have to wonder how many people were hurt on that thing ?!?!   I'm such a worry wart now, I can't believe we did it, and loved it !!  Crazy times, back in the 60's and 70's.
