February
15, 1998
Yesterday
was Valentine's Day. We had a great
day! Manda went to work and so did
Zac. I wish they could have been there
with us. Roger and I and Landon, went
snowmobiling with Garret and Jared Judd, Roger and Annette Prescott, and their
children, Lance, Shawn, Karly, and Blake, and Bret Kimbal and his two sons,
Colby and Chase. We left at about 11
a.m., and returned home about 6:30. It
was the greatest day, even though the weather didn't cooperate the whole
time. First we went our usual way up on
Jim Wiscombe's dryfarm, and then dropped down onto Clark's dryfarm, because
Jim's dryfarm is all bared off on the back side. We then came around Clark's, and went back up
on the Richville Range. We decided to go
up to the Cathedral of the Pines (our usual hot dog run destination) to eat
lunch, before meeting up with Kimbal's at the place where you drop off into
Hardscrabble. It was pretty nice and
sunny, until we got up to the Cathedrals, and got finished eating lunch, then a
storm blew in. We rode back to where it
drops off into Hardscrabble, and waited for Kimbal's there. While we were
riding back, I almost tipped my snowmobile over, and as I tried to get it out,
I fell off my machine. Annette got a big kick out of that. If we would have had a video camera, we would
have won money on America's Funniest Home Videos. While we were waiting for Kimbal's, we
heard Wilkinson's snowcat. Bert
Wilkinson was driving it, and he came up to where we were. About that time Kimbal's arrived, and Bert
gave us all a ride in the snow cat. The
kids thought it was the greatest, and so did the adults. It was a great experience, and one that not
too many people get to do. Dan
Wilkinson, and his bunch came over from the Towers and talked to us for a
little while, and told us to go down and see their "tent", and to
relax and make us some hot chocolate.
Since it was snowing pretty bad, we took them up on their offer, and rode
down into Hardscrabble, through Pole Hollow, where Wilkinson's have made all
those big nice roads to drive on. It was
great! My kind of snowmobiling! The tent was really neat for a tent, nothing
fancy, but a great place to hole up on a snowy day. We built a fire in the wood stove, and dried
off and sat around and heated water for hot chocolate. By the time we were done, it had pretty much
stopped snowing, so we dropped down off of the Gold Ridge (using Wilkinson's
great roads) into Hardscrabble, and came out just before the Narrows. We drove up through the Narrows, and past
Arthur Canyon, and up past the pipeline towards Vern Kilbourn's cabin. By this time it was a little after 4 p.m.,
and we had to get back because Bret Kimbal had to go to a dinner at 6:30 p.m. We took a minute, and drove to Harm William's
property, and the guys and kids hiked over to their cabin to take a look. There
was also a neat beaver dam there, and you could see the beaver's home out in
the middle of the iced over pond. Karly
gave Annette and I a scare, because we thought she had fallen through the
ice. Lance, Shawn, Roger P. and Roger
D. and Bret Kimbal played for a few minutes on the pipeline, then we headed
back down through Hardscrabble Narrows, and up the Gold Ridge (nice roads), and
THEN, Roger P. decided to take us over "the ridge from HELL". We had to side hill along this ridge, and if
we didn't do it just right, then we could expect to roll down the hill about
500 feet. I absolutely HATE that kind of
riding. When we finally got off that
ridge, we were back to familiar territory in the Richville Range, and after
cussing Roger P. out, we headed home. It
was a great day, and when we got back, the Prescott's stayed and ate dinner
with us. We had cubed steak in gravy,
and mashed potatoes, and green salad, and corn and beans, and biscuits. It was
a really really fun day, and all we have done today (Sunday) is talk about
it. I sure wish Zac could have been
there with us. Manda and Therese went to
a Primus concert at Salt Air. They had a
great time too. Today, my Roger, went with Greg Birt (from work) and Bret Kimbal, and Roger Prescott, up to the
towers. I hope they have fun, it has been kinda overcast, and it could be
snowing up where they are. Me and
Annette hope they don't get into any avalanches. Wednesday, we are heading up Pinedale,
Wyoming for a snowmobiling trip. Roger
and Annette Prescott, Shane and Janet Taggart, Bret and Gaylene Kimbal, Kevin
and Cindy Bangerter, Jill and Bryan Judd, and Mark and Janene Walker are going
with us. We are going to have a great
time!!

We
have had a great winter these past few months.
We have been on a lot of snowmobiling trips as a family. This is the first Saturday in a long time,
that we haven't gone. It is kind of bad
weather today. It rained quite a bit
last night, and then turned to snow. We
have about 1-2 inches. Our corrals are a
mess! Next Saturday the kids have to
weigh in their steers, so we are probably done snowmobiling for the
season. Zac has talked to Dave Durrant,
and he is going to get a job with him this summer. That is fantastic news. Zac could be set for life. Me and Rog got our State Tax return today,
and are going to go to Wendover tomorrow.
Some of the fun places we have been snowmobiling this year are: Up to the Basin, Up to the Cathedral of the
Pines, Up to Hardscrabble to Wilkinson's tent, and riding in their
snowcat. Up to Pinedale Wyoming for 3-4
days, up Spring Canyon in Hoytsville with the Judds, Up to the Cabin on the
DryFarm with the Kimbals, Up Pine Canyon, from the Croydon side, (what a day,
the powder was 2feet deep, no kidding!), Up
Cottonwood Canyon to the top (same place
we arrived on top as we came up Pine Canyon), around to DryCreek, and out
Arbuckle Canyon (it was beautiful). We
never made it up to the Uintas, and we could possibly still go, but I kinda
think we are though, (But who knows?!?!?)
It sure has been a great season, and we have had a lot of fun with the
Judds, Kimbals, Walkers, Prescotts, and Richins.

July
29, 1998
Today
is Rog's 40th birthday. We had a party
(barbeque) here at our house tonight with the Rich's. Linda and Bruce came, and Terri and her two
kids, Nathan and Caitlan. Darrin and
Trinity came with their daughter Hunter, who turned 4 years old today
also. Ben and LuAnn came, and Michelle,
Kelly's wife, and their two boys, Chase and Brayden, who is just 7 weeks
old. Kelly left today to travel for his
work. He went to Toronto, and
Minnesota. It is his birthday also
today. He is 31. Joni and Kerry and Keysto and Chans came up
later, after Keysto's Allstar baseball game.
It
seems I haven't written since March. I
have been pretty busy.
In
February we went to Pinedale with our friends, snowmobiling. I think I already wrote about that. In April, we went to Las Vegas with Bret and
Gaylene Kimbal, Roger and Annette Prescott, and Bart and Lori Richins.
Mandy
graduated!! Hurray!! She has now moved
to Mesa, Arizona with Therese Haapala.
She flew down on July 16th, and has now found an apartment and a job
working as an answering service attendant.
We are going to be driving down on August 3rd, to take her bed, TV,
dresser, etc. We will stay with her one
night, and they come back to Vegas for two nights.
Zac
has been working for Dave Durrant Plumbing.
He is making $8.00 a hour. He
works everyday, at least 8 hours a day.
The fair is coming up in two days, and he and Landon need to take their
steers up tomorrow. He is still deciding
whether or not to play football. I don't
think he will. Unfortunately, he likes
working more than football, not realizing, that he will be working forever, and
high school football is only a one time
thing in your life.
Landon
has played soccer and WBBA baseball. He
made the all-star team. He is a great
catcher. He had his 10th birthday on the 5th of July. He and Zac sleep out almost every night on the
trampoline. He is growing up so
much. He is helping Rog more and more on
the farm. He drives the tractor now,
when they haul hay. He is excited to
show his steer in the fair. He signed up
for Little League Football tonight. He will
be on the Jr. Pee Wee team.
Pre-conditioning starts next Monday.
Unfortunately, he will not be able to go with us to Mesa. (he ended up
going with us)

My endorsement of Stacy - The
Assessor, Treasurer, Clerk/Auditor, and Recorder must work together as a team
in order to best serve the people of Morgan County. Stacy LaFitte is truly a
member of that team. Stacy has a very
strong work ethic, and is a very dedicated person. She is on the job, everyday, eight hours a
day, working for you. Stacy goes out of her way to help and support her fellow
county employees, and to serve the public with a smile. Professional,
intelligent, hard-working, and a person of true integrity, are words to
describe Stacy LaFitte. I give her my whole-hearted support.
