August - September 2004

August 04, 2004 - I’ve been really busy.  Trying to put together a slide show presentation from the pics from Girl’s Camp.  I’ve got another 6 days before we show it.  I’ve also been working on making up a scrapbook page for each girl with camp pictures.  They have turned out really nice.  They are all done, just need to print them now. 

Roger got his second crop alfalfa all baled (Billy Judd) and hauled away – without any rain !!! Hurray !!!!!

Zac and CJ are enjoying their new house.  Don’t see too much of them.  I know Zac is back to working on his Willy’s.  We are still trying to get a new front door for them.  Zac picked up a new toilet for our bathroom.  Hopefully we can get it installed this weekend. 

Landon started football practices this week.  He is still working for Marvin too.  Not too long until school starts – less than 20 days now.  He’s a social butterfly.  Never home, always going going going.  The other night Roger and I were getting on him about burning the candle at both ends. He had been going all day, and was ready to head back out about 9:30.  We really didn’t want him to go, because he had to get up at 2:30 to turn down the irrigation water for Roger, and up at 6 a.m. to haul hay for Jim Wiscombe.  He twisted our arms (haha) and we said – okay, only till 11:30.  He called a little later, and wheedled midnight out of me.  Then I woke up at 3:43, and went down to check if he had gotten up and turned the water down……………… and low and behold, he was SOOOOO tired he hadn’t heard his alarm.  So up he got, and the water was turned down 1 hour and 15 minutes late.  Then, a little before 6 a.m., he comes in, and tells me that he won’t be going to haul hay, because – get this – “He had turned the water down late, and so he had to go and change it, and that would interfere with hauling hay”.  Well needless to say, I was very disappointed.  I didn’t get mad or yell or anything, but I said – We said 11:30 – and you said 12.  You were supposed to turn the water at 2:30 – you slept through it.  You were going to get up and haul hay – now you aren’t.  I told him that I would be remembering this the next time !!!  Well, he stalked off, and the next thing I know he was getting in the shower and headed up to haul hay.  When I talked to him a few hours later, he was happy as could be.  He is really a great kid even if he does frustrate me !!

Manda headed back to work 4 hours a day this week.  The baby sitter, Verna, is working out well.  Next week she goes all day.  With the lunch hour, and traffic, etc.  She will be away from Camryn for about 10 hours.  This sucks.

Wednesday, August 18, 2004 - Well – it’s been working !!  I lost 10 ½ pounds the first week.  Hope I can keep this up !!  Manda and Camryn and Jim are doing well.  The baby sitter is working out great.  Camryn is only there for about 6 hours a day, 4 days a week.  Other than that, between Jim and Amanda they are able to care for her.  They sent her 3 month pictures, and they are beautiful !!  She is so cute.  I wish so badly I was there to see her every day.  I need to plan a day to go down next month. 

Zac and CJ got a new truck.  It’s a Ford F250 4 door – 2000 model.  It’s gold and black, and used to be Devan Carter’s.  This will be good for them. 

Landon got  a WHITE jersey at football practice, which means he’s on Varsity !!  Hope he gets to play some.  He’s doing well.  Since he got his car, we don’t see him as much.  I guess that’s just part of growing up. I wish these next 3 years would last a LONG  time.  He’s such a great kid and I love him so much.  I just want the BEST for him and for him to always choose the right.

Our ward is going to be split next Sunday.  They are adding 2 additional wards in our Stake.  9^th and 10^th ward.  We’ve heard that one of these will be a singles ward??  We know that we will lose some of our ward.  The Brooks and Francis family – this is going to be so hard.  I love those girls so much.  They are so good to me.  They are very special.  I will remember them always.  Who knows – maybe WE”LL be moved also???  I don’t want to lose our Bishop.  He has helped and loved Landon so much.  I know that Heavenly Father’s hand is in this, as it is in ALL things, so I know everything will work out. 

Friday we head to Millard for the Endowment Game.  - Last Saturday, we went to Idaho Falls, and saw Sommer get married (I did) in the temple.  It was a nice day. - It has been raining this week – Fall is in the air.

Saturday, August 21, 2004 - Last night we drove down to Millard to see the football game.  Landon was in on the kick off team  and receiving team, and he went in on a “few” defensive plays.  We wish he was playing more.  Today we had two reunions.  The White Family Reunion, and the Dickson Family Reunion.  They were both nice.  This afternoon Roger and I went to Ogden and did a few errands.  Tonight we watched “Master and Commander” on DVD with Russell Crowe. 

Friday, August 27, 2004 -  Last night Landon played an awesome!! Game against Park City.  He played the whole game, both ways, ran the ball for 50+ yards, caught a pass, blocked a last ditch effort pass from Park City, and was in on SO MANY tackles !!  It was fun to watch.  Tonight we hope he gets in on some playing time on Varsity.  We are having a luncheon today at work that our office is in charge of.  We bought Manda and Jim a computer, which should be shipped to them in a week.  This is an early Christmas present.  Jim LOVED his picture that we sent.  It was beautiful, probably the best picture I’ve ever taken.

Tonight we won Park City in an exciting game.  On the kickoff return, Landon got the tackle, as he pushed the guy out of bounds.  They announced his name.  They kids played great, and we won 24 to 17.  Manda started Camryn on rice cereal last night.  She is finally sleeping all night again !!

September 2004

Friday, September 18, 2004 - I’ve got to be better about writing.  Tonight the Varsity played Tooele for Homecoming.  We won, and Landon got to play quite a little bit.  Got a few tackles, knocked the ball lose for a fumble, and caught a pass for about 10 yards !!  It was great.  Yesterday we played the JV team, and won in over time 27 to 21.  Landon was the stud of the game.  Tomorrow he goes on his first official date to the Homecoming Dance.  He is taking Chelsie Ross, and they are doubling, tripling, fourpuling?   With a BUNCH of other boys and their dates.  They will go to IHOP first thing in the morning, then 4-wheeling up to Chase’s cabin and maybe to the Cathedrals.  Then Landon has baseball games in the afternoon, and then they are eating at Garrett Durrant’s for supper, and then to the dance.  I won’t be here because I’m leaving to Arizona to see my grandbaby !!!  I can hardly wait!!  She is getting so big.  We got Manda and Jim and computer and we have been emailing pictures back and forth.  I’m only gone for the weekend.  Zac and CJ got the pipe to pipe in their front ditch.  Mom and Dad put in their mission papers last Sunday – should hear in about 3 weeks. 

Friday, September 24, 2004 - Last night Landon starred again in the JV game.  He played both ways, the entire game, until the last minute or two.  He ran the ball, caught the ball, and totally creamed one guy with a crowd pleasing “gasping?” hit that laid the other guy out flat.  Boy he was pumped.  Morgan won Bear River 35 zip.  Hope we can go there tonight and do the SAME thing !!  on varsity.  (We didn’t !)

I have been working on a slideshow presentation for Young Women/Young Men Movie night.  It has turned out really well.  The title is Celebrating Our Pioneer Heritage, and the girls pose in different scenes, of which I took their pictures.  I have put it to the music of the Tabernacle Choir, singing Come Come Ye Saints, and at the end you can really feel the spirit, and it is quite touching.  I can’t watch it without getting goosebumps.  Music really makes you feel the Spirit.  I love my job in the Young Womens, and I love the girls.  I’m still missing the Brooks twins, but know they will always love me, and I them.

June 2, 2004 - It’s 5 a.m. and I’m up – yuck!  School is out, Baseball started…………..summer is here !!

It looks to be a busy one.  Roger got that job.  He is now Distribution Manager over the shipping room and transportation (semi delivery) in the Ogden, Salt Lake, and Twin Falls bakery.   He dropped his old cell phone in the irrigation ditch the other day – so I hope they get a new phone for him soon.

I had to do a presentation before the county council yesterday concerning Snowbasin.  It went well I guess.  Missed Young Womens – boating at East Canyon, because they didn’t need me to drive, and I wanted to see Landon’s baseball game.

Zac installed his kitchen sink, faucet, and disposal.  He needs to get the wood for his finish work, and then we can start on that.

CJ had to work 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting last night.

Landon played a wonderful game of baseball.  They played a team from North Ridge High School. We lot 6-3. Landon had a standup double and two walks.  He is an awesome catcher !!

Davina Giles, Ron and Dawnette Giles’ daughter was killed in a car accident yesterday.  She rolled her truck into an irrigation ditch.  She was Landon’s age.  I pray for her family at this hard time.

June 2, 2004 - Roger went to work, and went to Salt Lake to meet all of the people he will be over down there.  He was way out of his comfort zone.  He say’s it will get better though.

Gwen worked all day – we then went to Landon’s baseball game at night

Zac worked, CJ slept, and then they went to Home Depot to pick up a lot of “finish” type things for their house.  Spent $800+.

Landon got up at 7:30 a.m., went to work from 9-2 (ate at Steph’s for lunch).  Played Clearfield tonight.  Morgan lost 12-4.  Landon had a walk and a strikeout.  He didn’t play the whole game either, and that bites.

Friday, June 04, 2004 -   Roger finally got his new cell phone.  Tomorrow I’m going to get me and Landon new ones.  Roger picked Mark ?? to be his assistant in the shipping room.  I worked today, and made the decision to “NOT” settle with Snowbasin.  I feel good about this. – better than I did about settling.  I prayed about it, and feel I have made the right decision.  Left work a little early today, as I was at a standstill.  Next week will be busy, because Brooke Harris and I are the only ones there.  Jenni and Steph are on vacation. 

Landon is working at Marv’s and getting quite a few hours.  9 a.m. to 3-4 p.m.  Zac came home early today from plumbing, and then went back to Home Depot for more supplies.  He and Roger put all of the trim up around the windows (inside).  I swept up sheetrock taping dust (YUCK) and finished washing out the kitchen cupboards.  CJ was at work from 3 p.m. to 11? p.m. tonight.

Tomorrow is the first St. Joe’s baseball game.  Landon is sure excited.  It’s a double header.  Last night Landon played down in Ogden (for Morgan).  They won, and Landon caught the whole game, and did really well.

Talked to Manda, and she sounds happy.  She’s calling Camryn a little sweet pea, and cutie pie.  She says that Camryn has started to smile a little bit.  Things seem to be going really well, and we are looking forward to going down there in two weeks.

Sunday, June 06, 2004 - Today is fast Sunday.  Lazy morning so far.  Got to get my butt in gear and get ready for church.  Landon played so well in the ball games yesterday.  In the first game, they brought him in from left field to pitch, after Carl Ward had walked in 9 runs.  They put Landon at pitch with the bases loaded and no outs.  He proceeded to strike out most everyone he pitched to, and by the end of the game they had scored 7 runs, and the other team was still at 9.  Way to go Landon !!  In the second game, he was catching, and got two out at home plate, and they came in from third.  Put one out at third by a throw from home, and helped get two others out in the hot box situation.  He is an awesome baseball player !!   I guess we have sold our little Metro to Tate Roskelley, Derick’s older brother who will be using it down at St. George when he goes to Dixie.  When we got home from the game we checked out Zac’s project at the house.  It was “Tile” day yesterday, and with help from my mom and dad (the are the greatest !) they had the front door piece done, and also some of the back.  It turned out that Zac had misjudged the amount of tile they needed, so they will have to finish it up today.  Also, there were about 6 tiles that were broken in the box, so they will get those replaced. 

Monday, June 07, 2004 - Landon is off to Wrestling Camp this morning at 6 a.m.  I’m heading to work soon.  Zac is off to work also.  He and CJ slept on the trampoline last night.  Today, CJ and I will go up to Farrell Oldroyd’s home to pick out wood, etc. for the bathroom vanity.  Yesterday, Zac and Roger did a little finish work over at the house.  It is coming along.  They are planning on doing the grout work tonight I think.

Friday, June 11, 2004 - We have had a good week.  Every night, Roger and I have been over helping Zac on his house.  The finish work is almost done, the nail holes are almost all puttied.  I washed a couple of walls prior to painting.  Still need to caulk all of the needed places.  Tuesday night I went to Young Women’s and we made Young Women Value Flip Flops. It was fun !!  Landon has called every night, and he has done well.  They divided them into different classes, beginner, intermediate, Junior Varsity, Varsity, State Qualifiers, and State Champs.  Landon was in the State Qualifiers category, and they had various dual meets through out the week.  The winners of all of those (in the different weight categories) – Landon was 145, competed in the “All Star” matches yesterday afternoon.  Landon won all of his matches INCLUDING the All Star match in overtime !!!  We were SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited !!!  Landon was really pumped.  He comes home today, and we can hardly wait to see him and talk to him !!!

Manda called and said Camryn slept for 7 ½ hours the other night !!!  They are sure excited for us to come down next week.  I’m thinking about staying a day longer (Rog and Landon will come home Friday). 

Sunday, June 13, 2004 - Well Landon got home, and when he did he had more exciting news.  Morgan went up against Weber High School to see who was the “champion” team overall in the camp. They lost by ONE match.  They then awarded outstanding wrestler on each team, and LANDON was voted the most outstanding wrestler on Morgan’s team !!!! YEAH!!!  Josh Wilson was voted the most outstanding wrestler of the whole camp, and Garrett Durant was voted the most improved wrestler of the whole team !!!.  So all in all, Landon came home with two trophies, and a team medal and team plaque for 2^nd place.  He had a GREAT time.  Back to baseball yesterday, with two games.  One at 8 a.m. and one are 4 p.m.  Zac busted his  butt all day at the house, sanding, and prepping for paint.  That will probably continue all of this week, and hopefully by next weekend, we can be getting some PAINT on the walls.  I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo disgusted about the fact that they let dogs use this house as a BATHROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It grosses me out soooooooooooooooooo  bad.  I wish I could convince Zac and CJ to get those GROSS rugs out of the rest of the bedrooms upstairs, instead of just getting them cleaned.  If they aren’t going to be using them, until they have kids, why not ???!?!?!?!?  We have got to scrub the floors with bleach!! And hope that the smell will come out of the wood.

June 23, 2004 - Well our trip to Arizona was great !!  It was good to see the baby again.  You can tell she has grown, and you can even coax a smile from her.  I put together another slide show to the tune of ‘My Girl” and it’s really cute.  Manda and Jim were glad to have us, but I think Manda is a little homesick right now.  They will come up in two more weeks for a few days.  Hopefully Zac and CJ will be moved into their new home by then.  We have been painting, and it is going pretty good.  If we get it all done by this weekend, then they can start getting floor coverings done next week, then finish plumbing and electrical, and appliances, and voila !!!  It has been an interesting 3 months.  For the most part it has gone really well.  Landon started driver’s ed (driving with Coach Rock) this morning.  I’ve missed a few of his ball games, due to helping Zac and CJ, but with 5 games a week, I can usually make it to a couple of them. 

June 24, 2004 - Painted again last night.  Thank goodness my mom comes and helps.  Tonight was supposed to be a baseball game for Landon in Morgan, but it has been cancelled.  Dang, I could have gone to that one !!  Oh well, more time for painting I guess.  Josh  (McKenzie's husband) wants to do the linoleum in the kitchen on Saturday.  It’s looking good !!

Saturday, June 26, 2004 - Today Landon had a double header with the St. Joe’s team. They played Bear River B.  Won one and lost one.  Landon played center field, and catcher.  He is an awesome catcher.  Zac got his vinyl installed in his kitchen today.  Need to paint the living room (second coat) tomorrow.  Trim in the living room on Monday.  Then painting will be all done.  Tried to call Manda, but no answer. 

Monday, June 28, 2004 - Today I skipped work and painted all day at Zac and CJ’s.  It is coming right along.  Tomorrow, Josh will install the tack strips and carpet pad.  CJ will finish painting the cabinets the final coat.  Whitewater guys should come Thursday.  Appliances are being delivered Friday and the carpet will be installed on Saturday.  Zac got all the finish electrical done on the main floor tonight.  It is looking GREAT !!!  Still a little bit of touch up painting here and there.     Tomorrow I’ll be going to East Canyon with the Young Men an Young Women, water skiing, boating, etc.  I made two brownie cakes tonight.  One for a luncheon at work tomorrow, and one for the YM/YW.

Friday, July 02, 2004 - Well I have a OBGYN appointment this morning with a new doctor (Fillerup).  Zac and CJ’s house is almost done.  Today they are getting whitewater (marble around tub, vanity top, and window sills) also Josh is going to finish laying the carpet, and the appliances are being delivered.  It is looking GREAT !!!  They will be moving this weekend, and next Monday and Tuesday, and then we’ll get ready for Manda and the family.  Of course baseball in between all of this !!!  Landon had a great game last night.  They played against Bonneville, and won them 18 to 8 with the 10 run rule (I think).  Everyone hit awesome !!  He’ll be 16 years in 3 more days……………..  Don’t know quite what to think !!!!  I wish Mark still had his boat so we could have a fun party like last year.  The boating at East Canyon was good the other night.  A lot of kids couldn’t make it though……..

Sunday, July 04, 2004 - Yesterday was the final push at Zac and CJ’s house.  Carpet is in, cupboard doors on, doors hung, doorknobs on, bathroom and all the fixtures are in.  Painting DONE !!  Appliances all in place.  It looks so nice.  We are so happy for them, and so happy for ourselves!!  That it is done.  It has been a lot of HARD work !!! Today we have church, then a party at Forrest McNabb’s home, with the St. Joseph’s team, then we are going to an Ogden Raptor game.  Not doing too good about keeping the Sabbath Day holy today.

Monday, July 05, 2004 - Today is Landon’s 16^th birthday.  He is getting so mature.  I love him so much, and worry about him so.  I guess I’ll always worry about my kids, one thing or another.  Landon is…. Happy, fun, kind, caring, helpful, smart, considerate, sweet.  He had an interview with the bishop yesterday, and will be ordained a priest next Sunday.  We had a nice luncheon yesterday with the St. Joseph’s team.  I’m not much of a socializer with people I don’t know too well.  Some people just have the knack for it, but I don’t, and neither does Roger.  We went to the Raptor’s game after, and it was okay.  I felt guilty about being there on the Sabbath, and didn’t really enjoy it all that much.  If Landon or one of Mark’s kids is playing, I like the sport!!  If not, I don’t have much interest.  Landon went with Rock to driver’s ed this morning, and passed with an 88%.  We were going to get his license tomorrow, but we can’t find his Social Security card.  Need to check on that.  Zac and CJ will probably be sleeping at their new house tonight.  They went to RC Willey and got a bedroom set (at the scratch and dent) and picked up their couch and kitchen table.  They still aren’t back yet !?!?!  We are going to a barbeque at Annette’s house tonight with all the gang.  I made funeral potatoes, and a birthday cake for Landon to take.  Tonight they are dedicating the Wilkinson Recplex, with fireworks, etc.

Wednesday, July 07, 2004 - Yesterday was a crazy day.  I woke up at 8:15, and realized that I was late for work.  Went to work and worked until noon, came home and got Landon and took him back down to the Social Security Administration building, and waiting for one hour and got his Social Security Card, then went to the Driver’s License building, and discovered that I had forgotten his paperwork from John Rock, allowing him to get his license.  Bless Landon’s heart, did he get mad?  Heck no, he just smiled and shook his head.  You could not ask for a more mild mannered, sweet kid.  We also got him a DiMorini Bat at Savon (he’ll pay half), but didn’t have time to get him seat covers for his car.  He was able to play only 1 inning at Lindquist Field with the St. Joe’s team, before heading back to Morgan for the game here.  Tonight he heads to Logan for a game, tomorrow he is at Davis, and Friday, back at Morgan for a makeup game with ???  Saturday is free!!!!  HaLLE.LUJAH !!!!

Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - I thought today was the 14^th, so I had a anniversary card for Roger, and some treats (carmel popcorn, etc.) all set up for him on the counter.  But it’s tomorrow !?!?!?  The visit from Manda, Jim and Camryn went really well.  She is such a good baby.  Not onry at all.  She slept really well, even though her days here were quite disrupted because of visiting, etc.  Manda came in Thursday morning, and we made the rounds, visiting.  Friday, we went over to my work and showed her off.  Friday night late – Jim came in.  The party was Saturday, and it went GREAT !!!  Good food, and visiting.  The kids has a ball, and of course everyone thought Camryn was beautiful.  That night Manda and Jim went to the demolition derby, and I got to babysit !! On Sunday, I took Camryn to church and showed her off.  Everyone thought she was the best !!  Landon was ordained a priest by our Bishop, Craig Fisher.  Assisting were, Roger, Zac, Grandpa Rich, Grandpa Dickson, Ben Russell (bishop’s counselor), Jim Wiscombe??  Richard Wiscombe, Priest’s advisor, Ryan Rich, Priest’s 1^st counselor.  It was a beautiful ordination and blessing.  In it Landon was told that he would preach the gospel to the far ends of the earth !!  So I guess that means a foreign mission !?!?  Also that he would sit in the high councils of the church in leadership positions one day.  I feel this to be true also.  If he will stay close to our Heavenly Father, I know he will we be able to teach and help many people.  He is such a great leader.  I love him so much.  Yesterday, Monday, Manda and her little family headed back to Arizona.  Landon had a baseball game, with Roy (Morgan Legion Team), and played really really well.  I head back to work today, and at young women’s tonight we will have a cookout at the property.

Wednesday, July 14, 2004 -  Today is our 27^th anniversary.  WOW.  The years have gone by FAST.  I am happy.  Last night at Young Women’s we really had a great time at the property.  Landon is having a good time a football camp this week.  He’s really glad he decided to play.  His Morgan Legion baseball team is done.  They lost last night, a close one, to Fremont.  They all played great, and have nothing to be ashamed of.  Saturday is his last double header with St. Joe’s.  CJ took her grandma to get an MRI yesterday.  I guess they’ll know the results in a few days.  Hope it’s not a tumor.  Manda called, and she lost 4 pounds this past week, even with her vacation to visit us !!  That is good !!  Baby Camryn weighs 11 pounds 10 pounds now, and is 23 inches long !!  She got her 2 months’ shots and didn’t like that at all. 

Sunday, July 18, 2004 - Today I teach my class in church.  The title of the lesson, is “How we can receive revelation from our Heavenly Father”.  I think of the times I have truly prayed for help in making a decision.  I know I need to be living righteously if I expect help from the Holy Ghost.  I know I have been helped at various times throughout my life, but unfortunately I can’t remember the specific details.  That is why we should keep journals.  I remember one lately, where at work, I had to know about whether or not to settle with Snowbasin concerning their value for the years 2002-2005.  I was REALLY REALLY stressed about this, and had no where to turn but to my Heavenly Father.  I wish I had just taught this lesson BEFORE this happened, it would have help me in my prayerful inquiry.  As it turned out, after much discussion with individuals whose opinions I respect, we came to a decision to settle.  It was a testimony builder to me, and a comfort, that I knew I could turn to Heavenly Father, and that he was there – ALWAYS there.  Last year when I had to talk in church (December 2003), I did such a good job preparing, and at the last minute didn’t want to READ my talk, and so I laid it all on the line before Heavenly Father, and trusted and relied on him.  I had done my part with the preparation – now would he PLEASE help me with the delivery. What happened was really amazing.  I have never felt so calm in my life.  There were NO, scary feelings, or tremblings, (literally NONE) and I was able to speak from my heart with NO NOTES.  It was a real faith building experience.

Yesterday we went to Mt. Crest High School in Cache Valley to watch a double header baseball game with the St. Joseph’s team.  We lost both games, but I was able to get the “name” crocheted for Luann for Sommer’s wedding.  “HOLST”  Last night it rained HARD again.  Roger’s Oat Hay will probably be ruined.  It was ready to bale (Saturday), having been turned, and drying so well.  But Friday night, and Saturday night it was entirely DRENCHED again and again.  It is so disheartening.   I go to Young Women’s Camp tomorrow and the next day.  I hope it will be FUN !!

Monday, July 19, 2004  (early) - Well today I go to Girl’s Camp.  I hope all goes well.  I’ve prayed and asked Heavenly Father to help me keep a positive attitude.  I hope I can be a good example to the girls.  Yesterday church went great.  I was able to teach my lesson, and it went really well.  I felt like I had the spirit.  Last night Landon and I went to a missionary fireside.  It was really good.  Landon was asked by Uncle Hyrum (Brent Porter) to give the opening prayer.  That’s what got us there.  I’m glad he was inspired to call Landon.  I wish so badly that Roger was an upstanding priesthood holder, who felt that the gospel, and living the gospel standards were important.  Roger is such a great guy in SO MANY respects. He is a wonderful father and husband.    I just wish so badly that he felt these things were important.  He is such an influence in Landon’s life, and could be in this area too.  Right now I’m depending on other good men in our ward and elsewhere, to pick up the slack.  Our Bishop, his counselors, Dave Durrant, Richard Wiscombe, Scott Harris, Dave Streadbeck, Uncle Hyrum, my brother Mark, my dad, Pacome, Landon’s friends, most who have a strong priesthood influence in their homes.  My prayer is that someday Roger will realize the importance of “eternal” things.  I love my family and the gospel.  They mean everything to me.  I love my Heavenly Father and my Savior.  I hope to live with them and my family (ALL OF US) forever. 

Saturday, July 24, 2004 - Well, this past week was great.  Girl’s Camp was FANTASTIC !!  We left the Stake Center on Monday at 7:30 a.m.  and drove up on buses to the Heber Valley Camp.  We are in Camp Abish.  I wonder if Abish, the woman in Ammon and King Lamoni’s story (Alma 17:27) knows that some 2070 years after, that there would be campsite in the mountains of Utah named after her.  They told us that a man named V. Cummings and donated 8000 acres to the church, and President Hinckley came up and toured it, and was inspired to have the church build a girl’s camp.  He said it was hallowed ground.  Tithing money can only be used for sacred and holy things, so they used it to build this wonderful girl’s camp.  So far (July 2004) they have spent 50 million dollars, and will spend another 50 million before they are finished.  When it is finished, 5000 girls per week will be able to enjoy this wonderful facility.  We had about 33 girls from our ward go, and they all got along wonderfully.  New friends were made, and the spirit of love and cooperation was very evident.  Lynelle Rich and Sherilee Olson was the camp leaders, and they did SUCH a great job.  I really admire them so much !!!  Vicki Rose and myself were their helpers.  The girls are so kind to me.  I love them so much, and pray that they will be able to withstand the devil’s influence in their teen years. 

We got home yesterday morning, and I didn’t have to work, so I caught up on some much needed sleep. 

Roger’s work is going…………..  He’s sorry he took this job.  It is a big responsibility, and a headache.  The farm is getting to be too much worry for him too.  It has rained and poured on his crop of oat hay, to the point of ruination.  HOPEFULLY it will be baled (finally all of it) today. 

Amanda  - I called her last night, and she seems really down.  She found out that her job will probably be finished within the next 6 months.  ATandT is being forced out of the market of leasing lines from Qwest.  She is stressed.  She was going to be going back for 4  hours the months of August, 6 hours in September, and full –time in October.  Now it looks as though she’ll go for 2 weeks at 4 hours, and then start in full-time.  She doesn’t know WHAT she’ll do.  I am worried for her.  Life is a challenge.  I prayed for her and her little family.  Jim and Camryn are doing fine.

Zac -  He’s been working on his Willy’s again.  Bought a NEW motor from Matt Betourney.  They are enjoying being in their new OLD home.

Landon -  Mr. Social. He went with the *Boyos up to Byron’s and swam in the pool, then he went on a date??  I don’t know if you could call it that.  He and Chelsie Ross and Zac Markham and Paige Peterson hung out down at Zac Markham’s.  Then he came home and went with the Boyo’s to Hairy’s house and slept over.  Today he’s gone to Ogden with Derick Roskelley to check out some hats at the mall, and tonight he’s got a baseball game (hopefully his LAST one for the season) at Mt. Crest. 

Friday, July 30, 2004 - A lot to talk about.  Rog is at Wendover with his dad.  He turned 46 yesterday.  Landon is on a hiking trip to the Uinta’s with the Priest’s quorum.  I’ve been praying for him, hoping things are going well.  It’ a 32 mile hike (over 3 days).  I stayed home from work today and didn’t do much of anything.  I’ve GOT to get my physical body back in shape, but don’t have the ability.  I wonder if I ever will.  Last Tuesday, was Youth Conference for our ward.  We met at the church at 7:30 a.m., and had a continental breakfast, and then headed to SLC over Parley’s Canyon on a bus.  We watched a video of President Hinckley’s life.  We stopped at This is the Place monument, and then went on to the Salt Lake City Cemetery.  We saw, Mary Fielding Smith, Joseph Fielding Smith, Joseph F. Smith, Heber J. Grant, David O. McKay, Marjorie Hinckley, Spencer W. Kimball, and Neal A. Maxwell’s gravesites.  Then we traveled to the Institute at University of Utah.  We ate a box lunch at the bowery, and then went into the chapel and listened to Gary Poll, a very good EFY and institute speaker, speak about Samuel Smith, and missions. Then for the highlight of the day, we got to listen to Kathleen Hinckley Barnes Walker (President Gordon B. Hinckley’s daughter)  It was great.  She is so down to earth!!.  We traveled back to Morgan, and took a 2 hour break and met back at the church for a great steak dinner and testimony meeting.  Landon bore his testimony, and it was really special.  He is such a great kid and I love him so much.

Landon had a good wrestling season.  He qualified for the State Tournament by taking 2^nd in Region.   He didn’t do too well at state, and did not place.   He’s now started baseball.

I’ve been going in early to work at 6:30 a.m. when I take Landon to Driver’s Ed.  I have a lot to do at work.  I went to Manda’s last week to pick up her car we bought (1999 Hyundai Accent)   She has bought a 2004 Saturn Ion.  Flew down and drove back to Hurricane and met Rog and Landon who were there with the High School baseball team playing in a tournament.  Landon plays both Varsity and JV.  He has another game tomorrow (Friday).  I got to see Manda’s baby girl Camryn Dee in an ultrasound 3-D  It was so neat.  We are getting ready to give her a baby shower when she comes into Utah in a couple of weeks. 

Zac and CJ are buying a home in Morgan.  Scott and Kim Dawson’s old home.  It will be so good for them not to be throwing away rent  money.  They will be moving in with us for a little while, while they get it fixed up.

I think I’ll go into work at the regular time today.  Rog is off work today.  He’s got a lot to do.  He’s got to run to Ogden and get Landon some new sliding shorts because the others he had were stolen.  I was really upset about this, and had hateful hateful feelings towards the thief – who ever that is, I guess we’ll never know.  I don’t like to feel that way.  I felt ashamed about myself afterwards, because of some of the thoughts and feelings and things I said.  I need to learn to control my feelings better, and try to be more like the Savior at all times.  Usually, I am pretty good at this, and have been better, but I really flew off the handle yesterday. 

Rog also needs to move the tractor from over at the shop so that Zac and CJ might have room to move some of their things out of their apartment in preparation for moving into their apartment.  I hope all goes well, with them moving in here.   Landon has “graciously” consented to move out of his room so that they can have the bedroom adjoining the bathroom. 

When Manda comes on the 25^th – I guess we’ll have the kids all home again – at least for a few days.  Hope we can keep the peace !!

Landon played a great ball game (JV) today.  He went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a double.  He is an awesome catcher.  We played Box Elder, and the kid that was in the hospital with Landon who had his appendix out at the same time, played first base and pitched.  His name is Ryan McArtor.  Mark and Carrie and Mom and Dad and LuAnn came and watched.

Zac and Chip Covill came and installed a new water heater for us.  Our other one was leaking

Manda and Jim are doing fine.  I’ve been going into work at 6;30 in the mornings.  I’ve got so much to do it makes my head spin.

We are having a St. Patrick’s Day luncheon at work today.  I guess I’ll have to wear something green.  I also have to go to Ogden for a meeting on the Snowbasin issue at work.  Landon and Roger head to Wasatch for a baseball game.  I won’t be going because I need to get a bunch of work done at work.  If I go in at 6:30 and stay until 7-8 tonight I should be able to get a lot done.  We went to a ward party last night, me and Landon.  It was great.  Several people performed Cowboy Poetry.  Stan Pentz, Dave Streadbeck, and Jason VanTassell.

March 24^th 2004

This past weekend we got Zac and CJ moved into our house.  They were supposed to close this week on their new house.  Haven’t heard anything yet!  I still have this fear in the back of my mind that something is going to mess up and it won’t happen.  And here they are – out of an apartment………….  I don’t mind them living with us though.  It’s been good.  Manda comes tomorrow for 5 days.  We’ll have a houseful !!  I have a surprise luncheon/shower planned for her on Friday at Taggarts, and then we’ll have the family shower Rich/Dickson, which she is aware of on Saturday.  On Friday night we’ll go see Savior of the World, on Thursday night Landon has a baseball game.  We’ll be really busy !!! 

Work is going well.  I’ve got the land guideline applied to all of the properties EXCEPT the ones with homes on them.  I’ll start on that today.  I’ve been going in at 6:30 or 7 a.m. and working until 7-8 p.m. at night. 

Landon had a baseball game last night at Granger High School.  He played ¾ of the Varsity Game in the outfield.  We think Wade Murdock likes his hustle.  He fielded the ball really well – no errors.  BUT – when he came up for bat in the 10^th inning (score was tied) they pulled him (he had previous gone 0 for 1) and put Keysto in to bat.  Why didn’t Stan pull Derick who had gone 0 or 4, or Scooter, who had gone 0 for 3?  It is really disheartening when he is not given a chance to prove himself. 

Zac has been working on the Willys.  Got the two front doors on.  He’s having a hard time trying to find someone to put the glass in the windows on the two side sliding windows and the front windshield.  On Sunday he hammered a piece of metal through his finger !  It hurt really bad.  It’s kind of hard to explain, but it was a thin, clean, piece and it hurt really really bad.  He was shaking and white.  It hurt him, but it’s getting better.

I need to write in this journal better.  Manda’s trip here was good.  The two showers went great !!  Zac and CJ living here is going good also.  They closed on their house on March 31^st and have been working the whole month of April.  We have helped out a lot, and so have my dad and Bret Kimbal.  They had a dumpster ordered up for 2 weeks, and we filled it full !!  The upstairs is not too bad, only need to replace carpet and paint.  But downstairs, they completely gutted the bathroom, right down to the crawlspace under it.  They dug all of the junk, wood, etc. out from under the whole house, and have replaced all the heat ducts.  They have stripped out all of the old plumbing, and installed new.  They have redone a lot of the electrical, and all of the phone lines on the main floor.  They have replaced all of the windows, except the kitchen window, and they put in a new back door with a window.  The electrical (redo) on the main is almost done, and then they will be ready to redo the floor on the back porch (for tile).  Also almost ready for sheetrock.   Landon has been a big help to them.  He is almost always ready and willing to help Zac when needed. 

Manda goes to the doctor tomorrow, and we’ll probably get a baby this week, or at least within the next 8 days.  We are really excited.  Manda and Jim are READY for this baby to be here !!!

Landon is through with Driver’s Ed, and is now driving with us in the vehicle.  He is almost through with baseball, and it has been a good season.  Only one more week of it.

May 3, 2004 (Monday)

Well I’m back on the Pepsi, and I feel rotten.  Why can’t I learn??  Manda called tonight after her doctor’s appointment, and she’s pretty bummed.  I guess she’s not dilating, and is only 50% effaced, and so no going today…..  She has another appointment on Friday, and the doctor will see if there is any more progress at that time.  She told Manda to walk, walk, walk, among other things……. So Manda is heading to the mall (can’t walk outside in 100 degree weather).  I hope she can get things started.  I know she is pretty miserable.

Zac is sure onry lately.  Don’t know if the house if wearing on him or not.  I guess he got the dryer vent put in, and also the window well.  All the windows are in now.  He now has to worry about the floor in the back room.  It needs to be cemented up some how for the tile.  Also, the electrical in the back room needs to be finished and he needs my dad’s help for this.  It’s almost ready to sheetrock, but he seems bummed about something……….

May 7, 2004 (Friday)

Today Manda had her doctor’s appointment, and they are going to induce her tomorrow night (May 8^th) a 10 p.m., so hopefully little Camryn will be born on May 9^th – Mother’s Day.  What a nice present for Manda and Me.  I was born on Jan 9^th, Manda on April 9^th, and maybe little Camryn will be born on May 9^th !!  Manda is sure ready.  I’m going to fly out tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. 

Tonight we got the back cement floor in Zac’s back porch (enclosed) cleaned and ready to be cemented tomorrow. He and my dad got all the electrical done the other day.  Zac seems more happy.   CJ is with her mom and sister up to Park City to a scrapbooking party.  Landon is sleeping over night at Mikey Eddy’s.  Landon played in the last baseball game of Morgan’s season on Thursday at Carbon High School in Price.  Roger drove down for the game.  It’s about a 2 ½ hour drive.

I only worked about 3 hours today, I was waiting for Manda’s call, and then I’m too excited !!!  I’ve got to get up at 5 a.m. (6 a.m.?) tomorrow morning so I’m ready to leave by 8 a.m.  I’ll just leave the car in long term parking. (ended up costing me $60.00 – won’t do THAT again !)   My stomach’s been giving me fits the last couple of days.  It seems all I have is gas (burping).  I worry because that is what Colleen Wiggill had – and it turned out to be cancer and she died in 5 weeks.  Something just doesn’t feel right in my stomach……….  Or maybe it’s just nerves with this baby.  I need to make me a doctor’s appointment when I get back from the baby.  Until then, only Rog and I know there seems to be a problem. My gut is so big, it look like I’M the one having a baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (turned out to be nothing !!  Must have been nerves)

Well I’m a grandma now.  I wish I had taken my journal to Phoenix with me, to record my thought ant impressions, but I didn’t and so now here 8 days later I’ll attempt to recapture the moments.  

I traveled down on Saturday morning, May 8^th.  Manda I went shopping (for me some clothes, since I have NONE).  Then we just relaxed around the house.  Jim was very emotional tonight.  He’s really excited for this little one to come – with all the emotions of being a daddy that come with it.  He is such a great guy, and it’s obvious he loves Manda and Camryn very much.  Amanda was scheduled to go into the hospital that night (May 8^th) at 10 p.m., and they gave her a pill, both vaginally and orally that was supposed to soften, thin, and open her cervix.  If and when her cervix had reached a “2” – then they would start her on Pitocin to induce the contractions.  Well this never worked, and so about 9 p.m. Sunday night we came back home.  It was sure disappointing.  During the night, Amanda awoke with contractions that were very painful.  These lasted throughout the day (Monday) and about 6 p.m. we headed BACK to the hospital, just knowing that this was IT !!  She was still just a “1”.  Talk about disappointment !!!  AGAIN !!!.  So back home we went, we some Ambien (sleep aid) and Tylenol to help her make it through the night, and all the next day (Tuesday), and through the night until Wednesday morning when she had another doctor’s appointment.  At this point, Amanda was pretty upset, depressed, and feeling like she was not going to be able to make it through two more days of hard contractions without going out of her mind.  By Tuesday, the pains had eased a little, and were only about 10 minutes apart.  She had been able to get a “little” sleep Monday and Tuesday night, but was READY to head to the doctor on Wednesday morning.  At this time, Dr. Reynolds checked her and she was almost a “2” !!  Happy day !!  The doctor stripped her membranes, and checked with the hospital, and told her to go right over, so she would get a bed for sure !!!  I think her water must have been leaking a little, and the contractions started up BIG TIME, when we got to the hospital, and she was in quite a bit of pain.  They doctor came over and said that she could have her epidural, even though she was only dilated to a “2”.  After she got this – she was feeling much better.  Four hours later she was at a “4”, and four hours after this she was at a “9” !!! It looked like we were going to have a BABY !!!  At 11:35 p.m. little Camryn Dee Schutt was born into this world.  She weighed 7 pounds 7 ounces, and was 21 inches long.  Manda was such a trooper, and did so well with the delivery.  She’s a great pusher !  Little Camryn popped out (her head) as the doctor literally walked into the room. And the doctor barely had enough time to get her gloves on to catch the rest of her !!  She’s a beautiful little girl – of course grandmas are prejudiced.  It’s amazing the love that you can feel for such a tiny little thing, and the tears of joy you can shed.  I have a lot of mixed emotions about this little one.  I hope I can be an example and influence in her life, but living 750 miles away it is going to be hard.  It was really hard to leave them and come home, even though I was missing home a lot.  I stayed down in Arizona for a few days.  We brought Manda and Camryn home from the hospital on Friday, and they settled in really well.  It looks like Camryn is going to be the great little nurser that her mom was.  Breast feeding is going great.  I came home on Monday afternoon, and was able to help a little “Mormon mom” with two kids (3 years and 9 months) on the plane, as she was coming home from San Antonio after visiting her parents there. 

I made a Photo Show (slideshow) of Camryn, and Manda and Jim.  It is beautiful, wonderful, and I just love it.  I watch it daily, and show it to anyone who’ll watch.  I love them so much and am so proud of all of them.  The music that goes with the slide show is Billy Joel’s  “She’s got a way about her”.  It brings tears to my eyes just watching it.

Yesterday I taught a lesson for Young Womens.  It was on Family History, and the importance of binding past and future generations together through temple ordinances.  Amanda Thackeray is no longer going to be in Mia Maids with us. I’m sorry to see her go on to a different job.  

Landon had a “feast” at Sister Burwell’s home last night.  All of those who “feasted” on the scriptures were invited.  He had a great time.  

Zac has found someone to “tape” the sheetrock, and so the work is coming along on their “new” old home.  

Roger is probably going to be getting that new job at work, and he will be the Supervisor over Transportation/Shipping for the Ogden and Salt Lake Bakeries.  It should be about an $8,000/year raise, along with a car and gas card and cell phone.  He is not really that excited about it, because of the responsibility.  But it is one of those things you HAVE to do.  He’s worried about the farm, and getting all of the farm work done.  

Zac is so into his new house that he is not interested in helping out there at all.  We’ll just have to see how things go.  

I’m still missing my grandbaby.  I love her so.  I wish they were closer, but I can’t do anything about that.  We are going down there in June, and they are coming back in July for a visit, and I’ll go down in August/September and Manda will come home for Thanksgiving in November.  It sounds like they are getting along just fine.

Tonight I went visiting teaching with Megan Porter Wilkinson to Penny Porter and Liz Wiscombe.  Linda and Bruce came up and saw the photo slide show of Camryn, and visited for a little while.  CJ is down to school, and Zac ran to Ogden to pick up some mortar mix (for his foundation).  Landon and Roger are at baseball practice.  I got all my wash done today, and also vacuumed the whole house, and mopped the floor, dishes done, a beef stew made for supper.  I did great!  Also went to a meeting in Ogden concerning the values at Snowbasin.  Talked to Manda today and yesterday.  Camryn’s belly button (cord) fell off yesterday, and she is getting her first “real” bath tonight.  I just checked on prices for plane fares to get Manda and Jim and Camryn here in July, and it will cost about $203.40.  I hope we can swing it !!

Stayed home from work today.   It snowed again last night.  We’ve got probably 2 feet on the ground.  Landon is at wrestling practice.  We had a good Christmas,  and then went to Pinedale snowmobiling and in my opinion it was bad.  It snowed and the roads weren’t that great.  We left the day after Christmas and the weather was bad so we didn’t ride that day, then we rode Saturday, and it was so cold and the wind was blowing hard, and a lot of us got frostbite on our faces.  I stayed at the hotel with Annette and Karly on Sunday, and was very glad I didn’t go that day.  Me and Landon came home Sunday night with Prescott’s and Gaylene and Chase Kimbal because Landon and Chase had sport commitments on Monday morning.  The rest of the gang was supposed to ride Monday and Tuesday and come home Tuesday night, but the weather was so poor, they just came home on Monday.  For Christmas, Roger got 3 pair of pants, and 2 hats and some socks from Landon and Manda.  A rock that says, #1 Grandpa in 2004 for his desk at work, and Zac and CJ got him a motion sensor light for the little shop out front.  I got a couple of charms for my charm bracelet from Landon and Zac and CJ.  A griddle from Zac and CJ, and a necklace from Mandy that says “Grandma” with a place to put little baby charms with birthstones.  Mandy and Jim found out on December 19^th that they will be having a little girl!!  As of that date she was about 10 oz. And 10 inches long.

On Christmas Eve, Jim gave Manda a diamond engagement ring.  .  A simple solitaire, that is so beautiful.  No wedding date as of yet !!

On Wednesday,  December 31^st she called, and said they had a name picked out – Camryn Dee Schutt.  They both love it – and we do too……………… unless they pick another one !!!!!

Roger also got me a crock pot and some silverware for Christmas.  His mom and dad gave us a picnic table, and my mom and dad gave us some money.  I crocheted names for Erika and Mark.  I don’t know if they’ll get them matted and framed or not.  I think Aaron appreciated it, he’s artistic, so he knows the work involved in it. 

We had a fun day yesterday at the property.  Mark and Carrie and boys, and Carrie’s family and us and Zac and CJ and Landon, and CJ’s family had a fun “COLD” day riding snowmobiles and 4-wheelers around the field, pulling kids and adults on sleds, building a fire and roasting hot dogs, drinking hot cocoa, and warming up in the shop.  Afterwards our family went over the Shirlee and Jim’s and played “Nines” – a new card game.  It was fun.

  

Friday, January 02, 2004 – As of this date, things are going well.  Landon has resumed wrestling, and other than not regaining the 18-20 pounds he lost during his ordeal, he is doing okay.  His strength and endurance needs to be built back up, and he is working with trainers at Weber State College and the Human Performance Center to help with this.  He still has a couple of stitches that didn’t dissolve, and they tend to “weep”, but they don’t pain him, and after wrestling if they are still giving him problems, we’ll have to take him back to Dr. Alder and he’ll be given a local, and they will have to be cut out.  We’ll cross that bridge when we have to.  We are so thankful for everyone’s prayers in our behalf.

I know my Heavenly Father lives, and that he loves me.  I am so grateful for my family and for the blessing of the gospel in my life.  I will try hard to live my life as I should.  I pray that my kids will gain their own testimony, and lives their lives accordingly so that we may all be together in the eternities.

Today is Sunday and we started back at the 9 a.m. timeslot.  Change is good.  I know next year we’ll be ready to go back to 11 a.m.  Sherrie Rich taught a good lesson about learning more about Heavenly Father and Jesus and trying to bring our lives closer to theirs through study and prayer.  That is my new year’s resolution.  We are studying the Book of Mormon in Sunday School, so that is good.  That is my favorite.   Landon and I have been reading as many mornings as we can, and we are half-way through the book and it’s taken the past year.  We’ll just keep plugging on and we’ll finish it this year.  Sometimes I get discouraged, with all there is to do, and what seems as though my lack of will-power, to get things done. 

Here is a definition of  Character:  Character is the ability to carry out a worthy decision AFTER the emotion of making that decision has stopped.

I’m hoping and having faith that if I can improve spiritually, I will receive the necessary “character” to improve my body physically.  I will definitely need the Lord’s help.  I cannot do this on my own.

I like Alma, Chapter 32, Verse 27 where it talks about experimenting on the Lord, and exercising a particle of faith – even if you only want to believe, work on this until you do believe.   I will try this.

Yesterday we went snowmobiling up on the dryfarms and to the Cathedrals with Kyle and Kolby Kimbal, Terry Bybee and his sons, McKay and Devin, and Todd Markham.  We is – Roger, Gwen, Landon, Zac and CJ.  We had a good time.  Friday was a beautiful day, and today is a beautiful day, but yesterday was overcast.  It’s always better to go when it’s a bright sunny day with lots of fresh powder.   Last night Zac and CJ came up after snowmobiling and at homemade pizza and no-bake cookies, and watched a couple of movies.  Today I made funeral potatoes and meatloaf, and hopefully they’ll come up and eat some of that too.  I’ve finally got all of Landon’s appendix stuff typed up.  Now I just need to get it printed out. 

January 11, 2004

Today is Sunday – I teach a lesson in young women’s on spiritual gifts.  I have prepared well, and feel good about it – but as always, will be glad when it’s over.  I love my Heavenly Father so much – our family is so blessed.  These past two days we’ve been in Logan watching Landon participate in the Bobcat Brawls.  It was great.  He ended up taking 5^th out of 8 teams.  He won 3 and lost 4.  He did really good, you can see he is getting some of his strength back.  It is good to have some wins, and it bolsters his confidence so much.  This is a glorious time in our lives, supporting him in all he does.  Zac and CJ went snowmobiling, and had a great time.  Manda and Jim are doing well.  He’s applying for a new job with Mesa City.  We pray this goes well for him.  It was my birthday (43) on Friday.  I am doing what is right, and I’m so happy.  Landon gave me a charm for my bracelet that says “Best Mom”.  Roger got me some silverware.  LuAnn gave me a table runner.  Mom and Dad gave me $20.00.  Annette gave me a beautiful antique silver frame.  Manda sent me a picture frame, with my baby granddaughter (Camryn Dee) in an ultrasound.  I am so looking forward to this – being a grandmother !!!  Life is Beautiful !!

January - Landon has be going to physical therapy down at the Human Performance Center.

Wrestling continues also.

17-19     Went to St. George for the annual Baseball Clinic.  Had a good time.  Landon, Derick Roskelley, Jake Blomquist, and Travis Brown went.

27-29 – Holcim Cement Plant court hearings at the State Tax Commission.  Gwen had to testify.  It was scary !!!
