First Day - First Grade

Camryn had a great day yesterday. Her teacher is a "Mr." (I can't remember his last name), and she thinks he will be great ! She sounded so happy tonight on the phone.

She called us, and we missed the call, so when we called back she was leaving a message. Here is what the message said, "Hi Grandma, sorry I missed you, please call me back, YOU ARE THE BEST!, so is Grandpa, be sure and tell him, I love you guys !" How can you not just MELT when hearing those words?

When we finally made contact, she said, "Oh Grandma, I apologize for hanging up on you!, I'm using my mom's phone, and I'm just not familiar with it", and then later when I was asking her about her cute black and gold shirt, I was asking if it was fish or dolphins (in gold), and she said, and I quote, "I actually don't know what it is Grandma, I only know that when I saw it, I thought 'I have GOT to have that shirt' it is FABULOUS !!"

She is something else !!

Life is like Hot Chocolate

A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor, now retired. During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints about stress in their work and lives. Offering his guests hot chocolate, the professor went into the kitchen and returned with a large pot of hot chocolate and an assortment of cups - porcelain, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the hot chocolate.

When they all had a cup of hot chocolate in hand, the professor said: "Notice that all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. The cup that you're drinking from adds nothing to the quality of the hot chocolate. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was hot chocolate, not the cup; but you consciously went for the best cups... And then you began eyeing each other's cups.

Now consider this: Life is the hot chocolate; your job, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life. The cup you have does not define, nor change the quality of life you have. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the hot chocolate God has provided us. God makes the hot chocolate, man chooses the cups. The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything that they have. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. And enjoy your hot chocolate.

Bats in the Belfry..............I mean Barn

The other night about 9:30 pm, we were sitting out on the back patio visiting with Landon and Kacey. It was BAT CITY !! If C.J. would have been there, we would have had to sedate her.
The bats were flying around like crazy. We were sitting in chair, in a circle, with about 3 feet between each of us. The bats were flying BETWEEN us, about 1-2 feet from our heads.
Swooping and diving, they had US DIVING !!

Landon grabbed the broom, and was going to try and hit a home run, using the flying BAT as the ball. He struck out - Multiple times :)

At one point, Kacey was on the ground, sure that they were about to attack.
Roger and I just sat there and laughed. Rog called CJ on his phone, and gave her a blow by blow account of the action. I could hear her exclamations over the phone from where I was sitting :)

If anyone wants any action, come on down to the Rich residence at 9:30. You won't be disappointed.

Fair Parade Fun

Had a great time in the fair parade Saturday evening.
I had a water shooter that I used with abandoned glee. I have found my niche in life :)

I must have been OUT OF CONTROL !! (I blame my mom - I have HER genes!)

"Thank you so much to everyone who helped with, and rode on the County Fair Float! That was a lot of fun and I appreciate so much those that were willing to help out and those that were good sports and willing to get in the spirit of things and ride on the float. OK, we could have done without the goofy hats, but thanks for being good sports! By the way, who was that wild and crazy woman squirting the water gun? Gwen??! Hope that deputy that got a face full isn’t planning legal action. Thanks for all the fun everyone! Hope you all enjoy the rest of the Fair.
