January - December 1992

1992
This is the year we bought a swather for $4000.00, and this is also the year we built the steel corrals in the barnyard.  We also put in the watering system down in the field.  For this we borrowed $5772.00 on an ARDL loan, repayable at 3% interest for 10 years.

I was the Secretary of the Morgan 6th Ward Relief Society during 1992.  The President was Judy Wilson, and the counselors were Faun White and Susan Wiscombe.

Morgan 6th Ward Sesquicentennial Service Project

This past year, 1992, our ward completed several service projects which were planned for the celebration.  They are listed below:

1.  We collected books suitable for elementary age school children that were easy to read.  We shipped these to Ray and June Wiscombe who are on their mission in the Philippine area.  They are teaching the young children to read, and needed the books.

2.  We have tied a baby quilt for each new mother in our ward this past year.  5-6 were completed and given.  We are going to continue this practice.  They have been very much appreciated.

3. For one of our Home-making  nights in the spring, we planted flowers around our church house, under the direction of the ward custodians and caretakers.

4.  We also helped to contribute homemade items to sell at the booth on the 4th of July to raise money for Casey Butler, the little boy with heart problems..

We have enjoyed this past year and our service to others.  We hope to be able to continue it always.

1992 (I think) - Rules

I'm sorry about the way I acted this morning.  You must admit that I don't do that very often.  We are going to be  doing things a little differently around here from now on.

Rule #1  No T.V. in the mornings, except on the weekends.

Rule #2  Mom gets her lazy butt out of bed EARLY every morning except weekends, and no laying on the couch!!

Rule #3  No one gets up until 6:30 a.m.  That is plenty of time to eat and get ready.

Rule #4  You can walk over to my work 2 days a week, no more than that, and that does not mean you don't have to do chores when you get home.
Rule #4 (Revised) You will come home straight after school Tuesday, Wednesday,  and Thursday and do your chores.

Rule #5  You will be paid an allowance every week.  This will not be based on your chores you do.  You will be doing chores just because you are a part of this family.

Rule #6  The T.V. will not go on until 7 p.m. each night, and will go off at 9 p.m. which is bed time for all kids.

Rule #7  Mom will post a list of chores for you to do at least once a day.  If you do not do these chores, you will have to pay someone to do them for you out of your allowance.  It usually will not matter if you do these chores before school, right after school, or later, however you will not watch any T.V. at 7 p.m. if they are not done.

Rule #8  No eating in the front room anymore.

Rule #9  Your beds must be made in the morning before you go to school, and mine must be made before I go to work.

I hope we can live with these new rules and be happier because of them.

February 23, 1991
Today was Saturday.  We were all tired, had a big day yesterday.  Traveled to Spanish Fork to a wedding reception for Sherrie and Ron.(Sherrie is my Aunt Dixie's daughter's (Patricia) daughter.  She got pregnant and came and lived with my mom and dad during 1990, until she had her baby, which she gave up for adoption.  She then met and married Ron.)  The kids stayed home with a baby-sitter.  We went with mom and dad, Erika and Aaron, and Carrie and Mark.  Carrie's going to have a baby in July.  Joni (Roger's sister) is due with a baby in June.(Chans Porter)  I'm back on my diet AGAIN.  I'm a counselor in the Stake Primary since last April or May 1990, and also the Bear Den leader.  We had our Blue and Gold Banquet last Thursday.  "Knights of the Round table"  We have an indoor cat now.  Kitty is gray, like Duchess used to be.  We've had fun snowmobiling this past winter.  We have four snowmobiles now.  Landon loves it!  Mandy and Zac are enjoying school.  I've been working everyday ALL day.  Jill Carrigan supposedly had her baby yesterday.  I haven't heard anything yet.  Annette Prescott's baby girl Karly, is 3 months old now.  Time goes on.  Grandma and Grandpa Dickson are getting older and older.  It's only a matter of time.  I love them both so much. Grandpa's physical health is failing, and Grandma's mental health is failing. Rog and I are getting along pretty good almost all the time.  I weigh 187 pounds, and hope to get all this fat off within 10 months.  I love Heavenly Father and Jesus.  I know they love me too.  I will try harder to do what I know is right!

February 26, 1991
Worked 1/2 day, then took the scouts to the airport in the afternoon, and taught piano.  Kids were good.  I kept my temper.  I'm happy.  I think it's this exercising paying off.  I can feel a difference, even though I haven't weighed or measured.  Our bills are pretty well caught up, but not paid off for the month.  So many things going on, selling hay, spring time, cat, yard, mud, scouts, church, kids.  Saturday is our 3rd Stake Preparation Day.  Busy, Busy.  Mandy is learning a new piano song for her recital in May.  Report cards are due anytime.  I've got to get up and see Grandpa and Grandma Tonks and Dickson.

March 2, 1991
Stake meeting this morning went well.  It's snowing - 2 inches.  Maybe we'll go to a show this afternoon.

March 5, 1991
Went to water aerobics in Coalville last night.  Still on the Big "D".  Rog is a lazy old fart, but I still love him HAHA!  Scouts today-

March 21, 991
Zac took 4th place in the Raingutter Regatta. YEA!!!  Also, excellent report cards for both kids.  Great!  We are so proud.

April 22, 1991
Got a road made up to the top of our hill (dryfarm).  Verl Mecham did it.  It's great.  We will clear the sagebrush, then dry-farm it.  I've been on my diet 2 months, and have lost 14 inches and 7 pounds.  187 to 180.  I've gotta keep going.  Erika is pregnant again!  Due in November, right before Thanksgiving. (She lost this baby, her 2nd one, in a miscarriage at 10 weeks)  Carrie is due July 10th, and Joni is due June 10th.(Jaden was born the 18th of July.  Chans was born June 11th, I think)

April 25, 1991
It's raining.  We need it.  The oats Rog planted are growing great.  Rog got the 4 cows (2 steers, 2 heifers) we bought from Jim Wiscombe branded with DR (Double "R") and ear tagged.  I'm still busy at work.  I've got to get the roll all put together in one month's time.

April 27, 1991
We went to "Silence of the Lambs" last night, and ate at Berconi's.  Just me and Rog.  The kids stayed home alone.  Woke up to 7 inches of snow this morning.  No kidding!  LuAnn just called, and Brooke Hartman, (Lynette's girl) got elected Cheerleader in her Junior high in Idaho Falls.

May 12, 1991
Mother's Day.  Not much of a special day for me.  Mandy and Zac hate me, and I feel much the same towards them. I'm doing a poor job of mothering, wife-ing, and life-ing.  I don't know if I'll ever be happy!

(Erika and Aaron went back to the Hill Cumorah Pageant in the summer of 1991.  They sent this postcard)

July 1, 1991

Hi you guys!  What are you doing?  I am just sitting here in Grand Falls, New York, trying to catch up on writing postcards.  We are having a wonderful time.  I really liked seeing the Abraham Lincoln sites in Illinois, and Aaron thought the St. Louis arch was awesome!  Sea World and the church history sites are/were great also!  See you later,  Erika and Aaron

August 11, 1991
Mandy sold her lamb at the Fall Show yesterday for $2.00 a pound.  It weighed 122 pounds.  First National Bank of Morgan bought it.  She got a shirt for showmanship.  She placed 4th out of 8 or 9 kids in showmanship.  She got a blue ribbon on her lamb also.  Roger's trading Zac's whether lamb back to Randy Peterson, and getting a ewe bred by Dave and Mary Sue Gold's buck, and also getting 2 other bred ewes from Wixom's.  I guess we are getting in the sheep business.  Double R. Ranch, Richville, Utah.( I think that 1990 was  the first year the kids showed sheep.  Rebena, Mandy's horse had died, so Mandy couldn't do horse 4-H anymore)  School starts the 23rd of August.  We are going out for dinner tomorrow in Ogden for Grandma Dickson's birthday.  She was 88 years old yesterday.  Next Monday, the 19th, we are going to Surf and Swim in Layton.  Mark and Carrie had a baby boy on July 18th.  He will be named Jaden Lee Dickson.  He is a cutie.  I am truly an AUNT now!  We are inactive in the church.

(What can I say at this point ? - 1996  I just gave up for a few years.  I'm sorry now, because Amanda and Zac to this point, haven't gone back to church too much, since the inactive years.  Amanda quit going to church when she was a Merrie-Miss, and I bet she hasn't been to church 5 times, in the last 5 years.  Zac thankfully, has been ordained a deacon (late), and a teacher last fall.  But I'm having trouble getting him to go with me now.  Thankfully, Landon is still going with me up to this point, 1996)

June 17, 1991
We leave for Moab tomorrow for vacation. (Paul Turner, the assessor, couldn't go to the Assessor Summer Workshops, so I went in his place.)  We got 299 bales of alfalfa hay, and 91 bales of grass hay hauled Saturday.

October 24, 1991
Grandpa Tonks died October 2, 1991.  22 days ago.  He is better off, but we will miss him so.  Landon has started preschool with Geri Hayes.  We are getting the corral going down at the barn.  We sold John Wilkinson (Sr.) some land where the old chicken coop was, so he could build him a huge shed.
(We needed the money badly, and we tore down the old wooden corral, and put up a new steel corral.  Looking back on it now, we really wish we hadn't sold the land.  We surely could use more space for our cows, and also, the building he built is so huge and ugly right next to our new home. Our new home was built where Uncle Don's old home was.  After he died in February of 1993, we bought his home and lot for $25,000, and then tore down the home, but not his newer garage.  We then built a new home there in 1993. We sold our house on the hill to Ed and Sharlene Olsen)

I'm teaching Webelo Scouts now.  Zac is in 4th grade. ( He had Mrs. Faun White for his teacher)  Manda in 6th. (Mandy's main teacher in 6th grade was Susan Russell.  Mandy really had a POOR year this year.  She didn't do well at all, and got in with the wrong crowd.)  They are growing up fast.  Our cows are back off the range.  We will kill the 2 steers and keep the 2 heifers.

November 2, 1991
I'm going to Pow Wow  (This is a Scouting activity that lasts all day in Ogden, and is held once a year) this morning.  Rog is mad at me for going.  I just prayed that God will protect my family while I'm gone, and that Rog will forgive me, and that I will hold no grudge and try and get back at him for being mean last night, and giving me the silent treatment.  Rog will be operated on, on the 19th of November.  His gortex ligament failed, and they will replace it with a donor organ.  We are selling the 2 heifers, and me and Zac will have to take care of the 2 steers till they're fat.(Because Rog will be laid up with his knee)

November 5, 1991
Had our living room, hall, and dining room carpets cleaned today.  It looks great!  I also washed down walls in the kitchen, hall, and living room.  I want to get some wall-tex up .  (Wall-tex is kinda like wall paper) Christmas is coming soon, and there are always money worries.  I ordered comforters from J. C. Penney's for my bed, and Mark and Carrie's bed (Christmas present).  I'm happy.  Happier than I've been in a while.  I've been on Prozac for about a week (anti-depressant drug)  I think it's helping with my depression and anger problems.

November 6, 1991
I can't get to sleep lately.  Don't know if it's the Prozac.  Just wish I could get  motivated to do some exercising.  Got my new bedspread (comforter), and bed skirt today.  They look great! Blue and Rose.  I'm sending Mark and Carrie's back because it's too big, and not exactly what I thought it would be.  Worked all day today.  Manda got her TSA, thumb sucking appliance yesterday. It's giving her fits.  We sold the 2 steers also.

(Manda was still sucking her thumb at 11 years old.  The dentist put this device in her mouth, with sharp pointy things.  It fit right behind her front teeth.  It would poke her thumb if she tried to suck it.)

This is where I quit writing in my journal.  Now, April 1996, I feel just terrible.  I feel like I have lost 5 years of my life. I'm sorry.

November 18, 1990
A whole year gone by, almost --
So much has happened.  Probably the 2 most exciting and important events are Erika and Mark's 2 weddings!  Can you believe it?

Erika married Aaron Bettinson on June 15, 1990 in the Salt Lake Temple.  She had a miscarriage on October 15, 1990.

Mark married Carrie Smith on August 24, 1990 in the Salt Lake Temple.  They have been living in Orem, but will be moving back to Riverdale.  Mark will be going to Weber State College, majoring in journalism.  He wants to be a sports writer.

I'm proud of my brother and sister, and love them allot!  Families are so important.  I love Carrie and Aaron too.  They are great!  I miss Tonya, and wish she could have been here and living her life on earth.

Both Grandpa and Grandma Dickson are getting older, and having problems.  Grandpa had a stroke last March, and is very weak.  Grandma can't hear or see very well, and is confused in her mind.  They have their meals brought into them now.  I love them very much.  They have done so much for us.

Mom and dad have been in California for the past week.  They are coming home today.  They have been tripping since the end of August.  They have gone to South Dakota, Idaho, Southern Utah, California, etc.

We bought Uncle Don's farm last March. (This includes the 13 acres down in the field, the barnyard, and his share of the Richville Range)  We are excited about that.  Also, we bought a 1972 orange and white Suburban.  But now gas prices are killing us.

Zac is in 3rd grade now. (Teacher is Mrs. Debi Carter)
Mandy is in 5th grade now. (Middle School- Mrs. Valerie Rich is the main teacher)

I'll be 30 soon!  Still on the Big "D"  Not much success yet.

(I found this next excerpt in my journal.  Zac had written it in December ( November?) 1990, on my mom's computer.)

I had computer today.  I did page 22 and finished the whole page. I did not like it.  I got hurt today.  I scraped my arm it hurt.  I was playing basketball.  Barry tripped me.  I am at my Grandma's house because my mom is not home.  I went to the library.  I could not find a book, that made me feel real sad.  I went in my bedroom.  I called my mom on the phone today.  I am at my Grandma's house for three days.  I am having fun at my Grandma's, she lets me type on her computer.  I am writing this journal to remember what I did a long time ago.

I wonder if this was written while I was away at UAC meetings in St. George?

8 - Little league basketball starts
14 - Joan's wedding?
