February 11, 1989
Well, we are really into winter here.  It has been so cold this past week.  20-30 below zero.  We went out with Joan and Chet last night to eat and to a show.  Valentine's Day is just around the corner.  Landon is creeping (not crawling) around now.  He's still on his tummy pulling with his elbows and arms.  Amanda and Zac are watching cartoons as usual on a Saturday morning.  Rog is out doing chores and fixing the tractor.  It is sure foggy out this morning.  Mark, my brother is still doing well on his mission.  Erika is still teaching school in West Valley City, at Monroe Elementary.  She's great.  I still miss Tonya allot sometimes.  Jenny Fry finally died a couple of weeks ago.  (Jenny Fry was another Morgan teenager who was in a car accident a few weeks after Tonya.  She didn't die right off, but had terrible brain damage, and has been a vegetative state for the last few months)  Mom and Dad and Erika are getting excited to go pick up Mark in 6 months. His time is getting short.  I'm still eating good and exercising and going to aerobics, but this past week I've had a real stiff neck.  It doesn't pinch anymore, but it's sore, and last night it ached so bad. I hope it'll go away and not be something serious.  Joan Adams is due in 7 weeks with her baby.

February 12, 1989
Sunday's are such lazy mornings.  Church doesn't start until 1 p.m., and we just lay around until it's time to get ready. My neck's a little better, but I still feel blah!  Diane Call was supposed to have twins in September, but one of the babies has died.  That's so sad.  (The other one died, and she miscarried February 26, 1989)

March
March 1, 1989
Well, February has been a bad month as usual.  I can't write it all down.  Amanda's getting old enough to read cursive.  Suffice to say, my life is a BIG MESS TOTALLY.  Zac says everyone hates him.    Roger and I are like total strangers.  Landon is my only light.  Only he loves me and needs me.  There have got to be some major changes.

March 29, 1989
Well, things are better.  Just go on I guess.  Landon is almost 9 months old.  Can't believe it.  He's pulling himself up to things now and crawls all over and can sit and go down and sit back up.  He's so sweet.  He has been so well.  Last week we had a scare.  He got weird bruises on his ears (petekial hemmorage)  Dr. Eberhard ordered a platelet count and blood tests.  They turned out okay.  I guess it was a fall that did it.  Grandma and Grandpa Dickson are in Hawaii.  They left last Saturday, and will be back April 4th. I'm so glad they went.  Joan Adams is having her baby on March 31st.  They are going to start her.  We got our tax returns back, and paid all our bills off.

Green.  They were married for a few years before having any kids, and then after they had Chase, they separated for awhile, and then got back together, and finally divorced in 94-95. Then were remarried in  97-98.  I’m so glad.)

May 6, 1989 - Kelly and Michelle were married

Wedding invitation.  Michelle and Kelly have chosen Saturday, May 6, 1989 to join their love in marriage.  They and their parents, Mr. Don R. Petersen and Ms. Connie M. Petersen and Mr. and Mrs. Delore "Ben" Rich request the pleasure of your company at a wedding reception held in their honor that evening from 7 until 9 at the Morgan 6th Ward.

May 22, 1989
I wish I could be happy.  Roger and I are not better.  It's hard to believe we could come to this.  I don't know if I can go to the bishop and ask for my recommend to be renewed.  I am so down.  I can't even pray.  School's out in a couple of days.  Landon is almost walking. I smashed my finger today - BAD!  Still doing good on Eat and Be Lean.

Dear Landon, Zac and Mandy
I have been having a blast down here in Los Angeles!  I really miss living down here.  I have been to Disneyland, and the temple.  Tonight we are going to the Magic Castle, and Pinks; tomorrow I will hit Universal Studios and Toluca Lake.  I love you a lot!  See you on Saturday.  Love Erika

January 11, 1989
Well, I blew it.  My diet went down the drain.  Don't know if I'll be able to climb back on the wagon.  I don't know why January, February, and March are such a hard time for me.  Maybe I'll get me an exercise cycle for my birthday.  My birthday Monday was nice.  I got flowers from (Joan Mortensen and Gloria Anderson in the Treasurer's office) (Paul Turner, Marlene Peterson, and Shelley Spendlove in the Assessor's office) and Rog  also.  I also got a cake from Rog and the kids.  Mom and Dad gave me 3 nice shirts.  Grandma and Grandpa Dickson gave me $20.00.  Erika came up and mom cooked a nice birthday dinner for me Sunday.  I started going to aerobics, and went one time and then bombed out.  I've gotta get going again.  Our kids are growing so.  Amanda is in 3rd grade, takes clogging lessons, loves to read.  She is so much like me.  I don't know if that's so good or not.  I wish she hadn't picked up so many of my bad qualities.  Zac is in 1st grade in Linda Spendlove's class.  She yells allot.  You know, it's kinda scary, when your kids get into school, it's kinda like you lose them.  You don't always know what they're doing.  You can only hope you've taught them well.  Sometimes I think I've failed in that department.  Landon is now 6 months old.  I took him to the doctor yesterday.  He weighs 17 pounds 10 ounces and is 27 3/4 inches long.  He's healthy.  He's slept so well at night since he was 3 months old, and then the last 2 weeks he has slept so poorly.  Last night, he was up and crying 5 times between 7 p.m. and 3:30 a.m.  I just about lost it.  I think he had a tummy ache, but I don't know for sure.   Babies can't talk you know.  I've been working everyday (mornings) and all day Wednesdays.

January 12, 1989
Joni's birthday.  She's 26 years old.  Going to Ogden today to get Zac's glasses fixed.

January 17, 1989
Got me an exercise bike for my birthday.  Hope I will use it. (As usual, I didn't.  I ended up selling it for $20.00 at a yard sale in 1991)  Landon got his shot (6 month one) today.  He weighs 17 pounds 10 ounces, and is 27 3/4 inches long.  He can sit really good and rolls really good.

January 20, 1989
I went to aerobics Wednesday and Thursday night.  Watching what I eat.  Biking.  Landon went to bed at 6:16 p.m.  He'll probably be up during the night.  I'm bored.

January 23, 1989
Today, Landon, for the 1st time showed his preference in foods.  I fixed him squash and cereal mixed, and bananas on the side.  He definitely thought the bananas were the best.  It was funny to watch.  Well, he started sitting a little at 5 months, and now at 6 1/2 months he's a pro!  He rolled over maybe 1-2 times at 4-5 months, but it seemed  at 6 months he really took off.  Now I expect he'll start creeping within the next month.  He's really squealing now, and screeching.  Showing his likes and dislikes.  He doesn't care for being dressed, but he loves his bath.  He's eating solids (cereal, peaches, bananas, beans, carrots, squash)  Landon drinks really well from a cup, and he's still nursing well.  I hope to be able to keep it up for 6 more months. (I ended up quitting when he was about 7-8 months.  For the same reason I quit with Zac.  Landon started teething, and started biting me really bad!!)

January 23, 1989 - Letter from Mark
Dear, Gwen and Rog and Zac and Manda and Landon, Yes, it has been a long time since I last wrote.  I'm sorry!  I guess that I'll have to repent, eh!  Christmas has come and gone and we're in 1989.  Thanks for all of the support that you give me, I appreciate it.  It was a good Christmas, and I had a Happy New Year.  As you all know, things are going great here.  I really do like my new companion.  He and I are so much alike in alot of ways, so we get along really easy.  We are working really good together, and never argue.  In short, things are going awesome.  I still have a great feeling about my mission, and I'm so glad that I came.  As of now, we have three people that are preparing for baptism.  In fact, one may be ready by next Sunday we hope.  The Ozawa's and Kawamata are still hanging in there, and doing really well.  I can't wait to tell you about each one of them in detail when I get home.  Can you believe, only 6 months left!  I'm almost 3/4 done with such a short time left.  I have mixed feelings about it, but of course I'm looking forward to it.  You seem to be all very busy and living every day to its fullest.  I love you all so much, and I'm so glad you're a part of my life.  Keep up the hard work, Rog, you a great dad.  You aren't too bad either Gwen!  Please write soon!!  Love Dickson Cho'ro'

(Approximately Winter 1988-1989) - Letters from Mark
Dear Mandy, Hey sweetie!  How are ya?  I imagine you are the smartest girl once again this year in school. Thanks for your letters, I really like them.  Do you like that Poll boy?  I saw your picture that your mom sent in the mail!  You must be pretty popular at school.  Do you like school?  How do you like tending little Landon?  I want to see him so bad!  Take good care of him, and I'll take you and Zac somewhere this summer, OK?  Well, write again soon, and work hard in school!  Bye, Mark

Dear Zac, Hey big guy!  Are you happy?  How is all the snow and the cold weather?  I bet you can make some pretty big snowmen! Who are your friends this year?  How about all the cute girls?  I can't wait until this summer, so we can go and do stuff together again.  Keep up the good work in school, and try not to pick on Amanda, because girls are babies!!  Take care.  Bye, Mark

December 1, 1988 7 a.m.
The last 2 days have been great!  I've stayed on my diet and exercised.  Also, read the Book of Mormon and prayed faithfully.  I feel great, happy, and my temper hasn't blown up.  It's great!!! I love my family, Roger, everyone.  Landon has been asleep now since 8:30 p.m. last night.  He's not too miserable, but then he only has about 10 pox on him, about the size of a pin head.  Wow, huh?

December 4, 1988 (Sunday)
Well, 6 days on my new goals, and it's going great!  Praying, Reading the Book of Mormon, eating right.  Exercising.  And you know I can tell a difference!  We put up our tree last night and decorated it today.  It seems Rog isn't ever here any more  I guess he isn't.  He's been working so hard at the bakery and the mink farm.  Be glad when it's done.  Got a County Christmas party tomorrow night.  Probably should have family home evening tonight.  I guess we'll have to wait until after Christmas.  Maybe start the new year out right!

December 5, 1988
Brenda's birthday.  She has lost about 30 pounds on Nutri-System, but it's costing them beau-coup bucks.  I feel so great.  I haven't got a scale, but I know I've lost some.  It feels so good to get up in the morning after I've exercised the night before, and feel so TIGHT!!  I feel great!!  I'm so happy.  I've finally stuck to it, even if it's only for a week.  I probably won't see Linda, Lynette or Joni for a week or 2, more hopefully, and by then they'll be able to see a real difference!  YAHOO!!  I'll keep this up. Heavenly Father has helped me to do this.  I can do anything with His help.  I read in Alma this morning, where Ammon is boasting of his strength provided by the Lord.  I love the Book of Mormon.

December 6, 1988
Tired tonight. Got up at 4:30 a.m. this morning with Landon because he'd gone to bed at 6:00 p.m. last night.  He's so sweet.  Grandpa and Grandma Dickson love him so much.  I went up there today and worked on their photo album.  Landon will sit on their laps so good.  They think he's something special!  They're right!!  They gave me a picture of them they had taken.  It's beautiful, and means ALLOT to me.  Wrote a letter to Mark today.  Looking for a new sitter for Landon.  Tried to call Diane Clark, and couldn't get a hold of her.  I sent 13 letters to publishers on the 28th of November for free-lance reading.  Have gotten 4 rejections back so far.  I'm beat.  Just got done doing my exercises for tonight.  Sticking to my diet really good.  I'll hang in there.  Slow but sure wins the skinny body?

The Book of Mormon and Heavenly Father have helped me so much lately.  It's easy being patient with the kids and my love for Roger has increased so much.  I want to keep this up.  I've got to.  See, from reading my past experiences, you're probably thinking I won't.  I hope I can learn from my mistakes and not revert back to my old ways.  I hope who ever reads this can learn from my mistakes and see when I'm the happiest is when I'm going what's right!  Guess I'll get the kids and me into bed now.  Sure sounds good.

December 21, 1988
Well, Diane Clark's gonna tend.  I'm still on my diet (3 weeks 1 day)  I've lost some, but not as much as I'd hoped.  Still exercising, need to get jogging or something.  Its' not been as easy for me this past week.  With Christmas and all, we're so busy. I don't want to give up though, and I won't.  The kids are really excited for Christmas.  Landon is so precious to me.  His last day at Claudia's is tomorrow.  Hope he likes Diane as well.  Paul wants us to work more (at the Assessor's office) and I don't want to.  I'll have to talk to him about it.

December 29, 1988
Well, we had a nice Christmas.  The kids were treated well by Santa.  I've been so busy it's hard to take time to write.  Diane Clark is working out well with Landon.  I'll be glad to get the kids back in school.  Diet's going pretty good.  Fudged a little on the day after Christmas, but otherwise, doing great. Into 13/14 pants.  I started out with a tight 16.

November 25, 1988
Been awhile.  Landon is 4 1/2 months.  He's eating cereal and applesauce at night now.  Don't know if he really needs it or not.  He sleeps from 7-8 p.m. to 1 a.m.  At 4 months he weighed 14 pounds 15 ounces and was 25 1/2 inches long.  He's doing well.  Got his shot and hardly cried, maybe 1-2 seconds is all.  Got exposed to Chicken pox on November 23rd, and will get them approximately December 7th.  Hope not too bad of a case.  We're going to see "The Land Before Time" today with the kids.  Me, Mom, and Erika.  Rog is working in the mink.  Had a good Thanksgiving Dinner yesterday at LuAnn's.  Linda and Bruce are going back to Okinawa in July.  Christmas is coming soon.  We are broke as usual.  Guess no bikes this year for the kids.  Uncle Don's operation went well.  He is home.  All the kids pictures turned out good.

November 28, 1988 - letter from Mark
Dear Rich Family,  Thanks for your letter - I appreciate it!!  Also, thanks for all of the pictures!!  Amanda, Zac, and Landon are all getting so big, I can't believe it!  Amanda looks like a teenager, and Zac looks like a big football player!!  You've all changed allot I think, but I still look the same!  Well, as you know I've transferred.  Koshigaya is a nice place and I know that I'll enjoy it as much as I have my last two areas.  It's a little colder here in Koshigaya than Koiwa, because it's to the north.   But it's not as bad as Utah yet.  My new companion graduated in 1977.  He's as old as you Rog!  He wrestled for Duschesne High School.  Maybe you wrestled him once?  We get along good, although we have had a few minor "disagreements".  He's another good friend that I've met on my mission.  We have 4 people that are getting ready for baptism, so we are pretty excited to say the least.  One is a couple that are about your age, Gwen and Rog.  There names are the Ozawa's.  We are still riding bikes everyday, and working hard!! Thanks for always writing me and helping me to do my best!  Love Mark

November 28, 1988 - letter from Mark
Dear Zac,     Hey buddy!  How are ya!  You are looking pretty cool in that picture that you sent!  All my missionary friends think you will be a good sportsman someday!  How is Landon you little brother?  Do you treat him nice?  You better be a good big brother so he'll be able to turn out like you someday.  Write soon when you have a chance, and I'll see you next summer!  Love Mark

November 29, 1988
I'm home with Landon.  He has the Chicken Pox!  They came early.  I kinda figure he must have gotten exposed on November 8th.  J.C. must not have been completely scabbed over.  Landon woke with a fever and cough early Sunday morning. (3 a.m.) I took him to the doctor yesterday (Monday)  He had one pox on his forehead, and his throat and ears were fine.  He's kinda miserable today.  The cold and cough are one of the side effects of Chicken Pox.  He went 20 days incubation.  We got our family pictures Saturday.  They turned out good.  I wrote some goals down today.  Hopefully we can achieve them.  I think cutting down on TV will help.  Roger is working in the mink besides the bakery.  He is such a hard worker.  I love and appreciate him so much.  Amanda is a big help to me.  She is doing well in school.  She is still sad about Tonya.  I guess it will work itself out.  Zac is funny.  He has been in a cleaning mood lately.  He is so sweet.  I've got to express my love to him more.  He knocked the VCR off the TV onto the floor (4 ft. down) last night and Rog and I blew up BAD at him.  I've got to control my temper somehow.

Watched General Conference today and yesterday.  It was good.  I especially enjoyed President Benson's message about the Book of Mormon.  Our family has so much improvement it needs to do, it's scary.  Dennis Peterson's dad, Wayne died September 28th and was buried yesterday.  We went to the viewing.  Landon's been sleeping all night lately.

October 6, 1988
Landon is the light of my life.  He was 3 months old yesterday.  He is finding his fist readily now, and gumming allot and likes to be held and walked around.  I love nursing him, it's so easy now.  It was just hard the 1st month.  It is so rewarding.  He is so sweet.  Last night in the paper, there was an obituary of an 11 month old baby girl who died of SIDS.  It scares me allot.  I pray that God won't take him from us.

October 10, 1988
Columbus Day.  I didn't have to work.  Went up to Grandma Dickson's and worked on the pictures.  Stake Conference was good yesterday.  It's nice fall weather.  Margo and Brett had a baby girl.  Jan Gailey, a boy.  Went down Saturday to get the kids pictures taken at Sears.  Amanda and Zac's turned out good.  Landon bawled, so we'll have to go back later.

October 15, 1988
Went to the Salt Lake Temple for the 1st time today.  It was great.  Went with Erika.  We got split up, and I had a hard time with my clothes.  Oh well, I did Katarina Liesenfeld's name for the dead.  It was neat seeing a live session.  Rog is hard to come home to.  Just ready to pick a fight.  Our marriage is a disaster.  I hate it.  Got Landon's picture, and all the kids picture together yesterday!

October 24, 1988
I've got to start doing what's right so I can be HAPPY.  I know what I have to do.  I wish I were stronger willed.  I'm afraid to weigh me.  Probably about 180 pounds.  I don't know if I'll ever get down.  Landon is so sweet.  He's 3 1/2 months and has found his fingers and always has them in his mouth.  He's so precious.  I love him so much.  Amanda and Zac are great kids.  I'm sometimes too hard on Zac. Manda and I seem to be getting along great!  Uncle Don gets operated on Thursday or Friday for his back, by Dr. Church.  Hope it helps him.  Landon hasn't been sick at all in his life.  He is so precious.

Landon's getting blessed tomorrow.  We are all looking forward to it.  Amanda is sick with a fever and headache.  The flu is going around.  This is the third day on my diet.  It's going good.  I have been walking allot with Annette Prescott.  Hope to see some change  I'm having dinner here for mom and dad and Erika, and Ben and LuAnn tomorrow. (Chicken)  Well, we got our porch dug out, and dad has got it 1/2 framed.  It will be the best built porch in Morgan.  I want to take an Aerobics class that's starting, and a sewing one also.  The Rich's are all up to the cabin this weekend. (Kerry's dad's cabin up Lost Creek)  Rog had to work 4 hours tonight (10 to 2)  It's holiday overtime.  Just paid off our recliner we bought in June.  $220.00  90 days free interest.

September 4, 1988
7 a.m.  Got up at 5:30 a.m. with Landon.  Stayed up and got a cake made, table set, dishes done and chicken ready for the oven.  Hopefully everything's set.  There's a fire up Emigration canyon that's bad.  It's supposed to be smoky, overcast, and windy today.

September 5, 1988
All went well yesterday.  Mostly.  Landon's blessing was beautiful.  Dad did a great job.  It was a very spiritual fast meeting.  I bore my testimony.  Landon messed just before he was blessed, and then grinned the whole time.  Grandpa Dickson, Grandpa White, Kerry Porter, Dad, Roger, Bishop Nelson, and Ben were in the circle.  Robyn Birt was also confirmed.  Grandma and Grandpa Dickson thought they were invited up to dinner, but they weren't.  What a mix up !?!  I've been walking with Annette.  I will measure now.  I weight approximately 165 pounds.

Sept 5, 1988      December 29, 1988
   calf 14 1/2       14
   thigh  24           23
   hips 42             43
   waist 37            36
   bust   40            37 1/2
   arms  12            12

I don't have a scale, so I'll just measure.  What a beef!!!

September 1988 (postcard from Mark)
Dear Rich's  How are you all? Got another letter from you Gwen, thanks.  I've been real lazy lately.  Sorry.  It seems that Mondays are my busiest days, the time flies by, and I don't have anything accomplished it seems.  Thanks for the pictures.  Landon sure is a cute one, isn't he!  I'm sure you're all back into the swing of things by now, already for a long cold winter!  Can you believe that it's September and fall.  I'm so close to coming home.  I love Japan so much, it'll be tough to go home though, it seems I've spent my life here.  Everyday really is a new experience, we're doing good and loving it.  I sent some stuff in the mail for Zac and Mandy.  Please try it out.  Even Rog can if he wants.  It's supposed to be some pretty neat stuff.  I'm so glad you've all went through the temple and been sealed to each other.  That's so important.  Keep up the good work, and obey all the little commandments.  I love you all.  WRITE SOON!!  Love, Dickson Cho'ro

September 19, 1988
Mom and Dad are in California visiting Bob and Judy Boliver. They will be back tomorrow.  I blew my diet.  They honored us in Inservice last night (the outgoing Primary Presidency), we got a wreath.  I'm going to the temple tomorrow with JoAnn Nelson.  It's Stake temple day.  The kids seem to be doing well in school.  Amanda is reading tons.  I'm so glad.  Landon is getting sweeter everyday.  I'm getting fatter and lazier.

Stayed home today and did allot of wash.  Amanda was supposed to play with Melissa after school, but Krista called and she changed her mind.  Then she lied to Melissa.  She called Melissa, and told her that she had lied and that she was sorry.  I'm proud of her for facing up to her mistakes.  Uncle Don's back is so bad.  I'm calling the doctor tomorrow for sure.  Aunt Lene gave Landon a cute Christmas outfit.  I'm working tomorrow morning, and starting an exercise program.  I gotta do something.  I look like a blimp.  170-175 pounds.  What a joke!!?!?  Dad came up and worked on our heating system tonight.  It'll be done soon.  There's a bat in our garage.  Going to Lynette's Saturday for Sommer's baptism.  The temple was nice last Tuesday.  Really special.  The two names I've gone through for now besides me are, Anastasia Campo and Maria Lopez.  I'm enjoying Landon so much.  He is 2 1/2 months old now.  Sleeping about 7 hours a night, usually 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.  He probably weighs 12-12 1/2 pounds.  I'm still nursing him.  He's in 6-9 month clothes.  The 3-6 months are getting small on him.  He smiles allot now, and loves to be held and walked around so he can see what's going on.  We all love him so much.  Zac is liking 1st grade.  He is learning to read.  He loves to play with his friends.  He is very conscientious about some things.    His homework and Super Books.  He likes to clean out things (drawers, cupboards) for me, but doesn't really like getting his hair combed, etc.  He loves to play with the little Fisher Price people.  He doesn't like to be alone or go downstairs by himself.  He is really enjoying soccer.  He gets mad easily, and wants things his way.  But then again, is very easygoing.  He's a multi-personalities boy.  He's very careful to change his school clothes when he gets home.  He is a sweetheart.  Loves to tease Amanda, but really looks up to her and values her opinion of him.  Amanda is getting too grownup.  She has discovered she loves to read, and reads 30-60 minutes per day. She likes school and friends and is involved in 4-H, and clogging.  She's smart and very independent.  I'm still fixing her hair, but we have war sometimes.  She is a great helper if you can get her to help.  She is so like me.  Very self-centered.  I don't mean that ignorant.  She is very tenderhearted and caring about feelings, animals especially.  She doesn't like to keep her room clean.  She loves to watch TV and read.  Doesn't play with friends much, other than at school.  Loves her little brother Landon, but thinks Zac is a pest most of the time.  We love her allot.

We are going up to Idaho Falls today to see Sommer be baptized.  Roger can't go because we won't be back in time for him to get to work. Me and the kids will be riding up with Ben and LuAnn in their car.  Linda and Bruce will be going with Joni and Kerry in their van.

Well, Idaho Falls went okay, and this past week has flown.  Zac's birthday was yesterday.  It went good.  He got a map for his hot wheels cars, and a coat, and Levi's and 2 shirts and $18.00 in cash.  A pogoball from Erika, and hotwheels.  He also won his soccer game 7-0.  Tonight he is sleeping at J. Golden's and Melanie Whimpey is sleeping here with Amanda.  Bonnie Wright,  Lori Webster,  and Shirley Lannefeld came up tonight and saw Landon and brought 2 gifts.  I went up to Grandma Dickson's today and started getting her pictures arranged to put in the album for her for Christmas.  Stayed about 4 hours.  Got the cement poured on the front porch Tuesday.  The wall was braced good, but fell apart a little.  It's okay!
