Seattle Trip - Day 1

Cam and I had been planning a trip to Seattle/Forks for some time.  We bravely boarded the plane on Monday, June 24th (without Grandpa Roger, because he had to MOW LAWNS :(..........)    We were able to take a direct flight from SLC to Seattle on Alaska Air, and then we took the light rail train to downtown Seattle.  We only wore backpacks, because we knew we would be walking, and didn't want to have to haul around our luggage.  It was early morning, and we couldn't check into our hotel yet, so we walked down to Pike's Market and saw the sights.  We stopped at the first ever Starbucks Coffee........(did you know there are over 30,000 Starbucks now?  The one we stopped at was the first, and I think it started in 1971..
It was overcast, but not raining.  See that HIGHWAY down behind Cam, with the graffti, and construction equipment?  That is the old Alaskan Highway, and they are tearing it down.  They have re-routed the traffic UNDERGROUND !  Right under the downtown city streets of Seattle.
We found the GUM WALL, and of course had to take part...........
Adding her CHEWED PIECE to the communal wall  - yucky and fascinating at the same time :)
Our view from Seattle's BIG WHEEL
We were able to check into our hotel by noonish, and this is our view.....  We could see the Puget Sound a little bit.  We stayed at the Moore Hotel, built in 1907.  It was old and charming, but completely clean and renovated.  I would totally recommend it.  It is MUCH cheaper than other newer high rises in the area.
Relaxing a little, before we brave the streets of Seattle again !
Our concierge at the hotel said the bus system was super easy, so we braved it, and caught a bus to ...........
Kerry Park, which is located up on the hill, North of Seattle, where alot of the picturesque photos are taken.
Then we bused back down to the Seattle Center, where the Space Needle, Chuhilly Glass Gardens, and MoPop are located.
Can you believe all of these things are made of GLASS?

Up in the Space Needle, with Lake Union in the background.   Cam wasn't feeling well, unfortunately, so I don't have any pictures of her  :(  One of her migraines kicked in, and so we headed back to the hotel for a nap.
Beautiful view of the city from atop the Needle
Coolest building (in my opinion) in Seattle. Shaped like a triangle, on it's own little Block, right in the middle of downtown, where many streets intersect, making this little triangle shape of property.
Later in the day after Cam was feeling better, we took a stroll back down toe Pike's Market.   Loved this picture because you could finally see Mt. Rainier in the distance, and the ball stadiums right in front of it.
We've had quite the first day in Seattle - the sun is going down, think we'll head back to our hotel.
But first !  a Picture with Pike's Market Pig (I had to do some talking, that's for sure)
There is our hotel, down the block in white.
Tomorrow we'll conquer DAY TWO !!
